Course Description
In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to interpret specifications, design and construct three-dimensional (3-D) props, and maintain and modify fashion mannequins for displays.

Amongst the library’s electronic resources is the ability to access Lynda.com for online software tutorials and lessons. You may be given these tutorials (and other resources) to supplement your classroom learning.

You must dress appropriately for classes as the workshop tools & equipment equipment with moving parts & sharp cutting edges. No loose clothing or jewellery, long unrestrained hair, and correct footwear that completely covers the feet.
Safety is of primary importance.
The following dress code must be adhered to as minimum for participation in these workshop based classes
-Closed toed shoes.
-No loose jewellery.
-Preference for longer garments that cover legs.
Minimum tools and equipment for every class should be drawing equipment.
Overview of Assessment
Assessment is on-going throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills.
The assessment tasks are practical projects:
Project 1 25%
Project 2 25%
Project 3 25%
Project 4 25%
Please note: All Assessment tasks need to be completed before competency is achieved. A number of tasks will be formative to show your progress and development of skills and knowledge throughout the semester. The final task will be summative to provide a level of performance in addition to your competency.

Assessment Tasks
Assessments tasks and dates for Teams will vary for each group depending on the VMP installation dates.
Tasks in this course are formative and summative. Feedback throughout the course may be written, verbal or a combination of both.
Formative tasks. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks and you should engage in all formative tasks.
Summative Tasks. Summative Tasks, all of which must be completed/submitted. You are required to demonstrate all learning outcomes to a satisfactory standard.
The tasks all require evidence of exploring and developing the 3D process and the creation of 3D elements to a high standard.
Duration
This course will be delivered for 32 weeks over two semesters.
Demonstrating Competency
To demonstrate competency in this course you need to complete each assessment to a satisfactory standard.
Formative exercises
Formative assessment will be ongoing and observed duriing class time, when design and development of props and display elements are being developed and prototype.
Feedback guidance and direction will be given directly in class to help you develop your design skills so you can sucessfully complete design and construction of props for the summative assessments tasks.
Demonstrate safe use of tools and equipment .
Summative Assessment Tasks: Equally weighted.
Task A - Free choice elements for display
Assesment will be by observation of the development and construction of the prop in classtime in the Studio workshop along with the submission of development work including thumbnail sketches, scale drawing and final presentation sketch used to develop props and display elements, including photo of final display using prop.
Due: Final submission of all elements due after installation of display in VMP 2
Task B- Retail Branding props
Assesment will be by observation of the development and construction of the prop in classtime in the Studio workshop along with the submission of development work including thumbnail sketches, scale drawing and final presentation sketch used to develop props and display elements, including photo of final display using prop.

Task C - Front Window props
Assesment will be by observation of the development and construction of the prop in classtime in the Studio workshop, as well as the submission of development work including thumbnail sketches, scale drawing and final presentation sketch used to develop props and display elements, including photo of final display using prop.

Task D - Mannequin elements project.
Competency based assessment
You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time.
The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome.
Assessment Grading: Your final level of assessment for this course will be graded as follows.
CHD : Competent with High Distinction : 80 – 100
CDI : Competent with Distinction 70 – 79
CC - Competent with Credit : 60 – 69
CAG - Competency Achieved Graded : 50 – 59
NYC - Not Yet Competent - 0 – 49
