Course Description

In this course, you will gain skills and knowledge required to engage young people, analyse service needs of particular groups and develop programs and services to meet those needs.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1:

For this task, you need to form a team with three classmates to develop a stakeholder engagement plan to develop a service program. The service program is to be based on a scenario in which you are a community centre youth worker. You will maintain this role for the course’s tasks.

The three tasks involve:

  • a group task to prepare to work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • a group task to develop and implement the program
  • an individual task to review the program.

The objective of the first assessment task is to demonstrate your ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders through preparing a stakeholder engagement plan

and to develop a youth mentoring program and prepare a plan for the implementation of the program.

You will be allocated time in class to work with your team mates on the design and implementation of the service program. 

The objective of this assessment task is to demonstrate your ability to design and implement a service program for a specific group.

Assessment Task 2:

For this task you need to review the program and collaboration strategies, and prepare a program review report. 

This is an individual task but you will be allocated time during class to prepare the report.

The objective of this assessment task is to demonstrate your ability to review a service program and to suggest and plan for improvements.

Assessment Task 3:

For this task you need to identify three potential networks for your organisation's service delivery and present it in front of your colleagues.

This is an individual task but you will be allocated time during class to prepare the report.

The objective of this assessment task is to demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge of networking and establish partnerships to deliver service programs.

 Assessment Task 4:

For this assignment you need to develop a power point presentation including all the details in your scenario that has been provided in Canvas. You are required to deliver a power point presentation in simulating real work environment. Your teacher will observe the presentation as part of the assessment of the task. This is a graded assignment.

Work placement

The Diploma of Youth Work requires 160 hours of work placement in a youth work organisation, undertaking the kinds of professional tasks you could expect to perform while employed as a youth worker.

Police Check
You must obtain evidence of a satisfactory National Police Records Check before undertaking work placements and will need to pay the associated costs.

You may be required to obtain a satisfactory National Police Records Check at the request of their placement agency.

Working with Children
You must provide evidence of a satisfactory Working with Children check before undertaking work placements and will need to pay the associated costs.

You may be required to provide evidence of immunisation for certain diseases before undertaking work placement. You will need to discuss the specific requirements of your placement with the course coordinator and/or WIL practitioner and will need to pay the associated costs for immunisation.
