Course Description

In this course you will develop communication skills to present a range of styling concepts and ideas in an informative and engaging manner by exploring how to use your fashion knowledge to create a promotional image. You will apply styling techniques to visually arrange products. You will also explore the sourcing and arranging of props to tell a visual story.
You will do this with a variety of products for different promotional briefs, presenting your concepts and images to your peers. This feedback will help you analyse your professional skills.

Learning activities may include tutorials, practical workshops and off campus research where you will be challenged to reflect and debate on different concepts and issues surrounding contemporary styling situations and develop solutions for a design problem or brief.

You will have access to a photography studio and equipment. As well as computers to support this activity.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and has been designed to measure achievement of each element in a flexible manner. Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including projects and assignments designed for students to demonstrate their ability to plan and review how they present. To successful complete this course students must demonstrate competency in all elements as listed.

Students will be eligible for a graded result higher than Competency achieved only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period and on the first assessment attempt. Units assessed as ‘not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ‘competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but will not be eligible for grading. Students are advised that they may be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to confirm aspects of competency not evidenced in class or through assessments.
All work must be submitted by the due date. Late submission will not be graded higher than a Competency Achieved (CAG)

Assessment Task 1 - Create a Styled Image
                                   Art direct and style an image for a brand’s website
Assessment Task 2 -  Source a Prop
                                    You will be required to source a specific prop and provide detail on process and outcome. 
Assessment Task 3: Style and Present Merchandise (Look Book)
                                 Working in a team Art direct, style and shoot images for a look book and present a Look Book prototype consisting of a cover page and 5 complete images.

Penalties for late assessment
Late submission or presentation of assessable work without an approved extension will be penalised as follows:
- Complete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark
- Partial or incomplete work submitted 1 to 7 days late will incur a penalty of 5% per day on your final mark for the entire assessable work
- Work submitted after day 7 will be awarded an NN grade and 0% mark
- Weekends and holiday periods are included in the calculation of the late penalty
- Where a due date includes a specific time for submission or presentation, submissions after that time on the due date incur a 5% penalty.
