Course Description
In this course you will experiment with different ways of creating or altering fashion product to meet a range of different styling scenarios. You will be required to demonstrate skills in problem solving, planning, organising, initiative and enterprise to develop, design and produce a fashion design product .

Introduction to course and outcomes. Discuss weekly planner, timelines, and assessment tasks. Discuss Occupational Health and Safety requirements of the workroom. Intro Ass 1 – Knowledge questionnaire Class exercise: Fashion terminology. Download booklet. Student to use reference for garment descriptions to assist annotations for the Visual Style Journal. Class exercise: Students will use existing garments to dress a client; fit, alter, re-model and make repairs, to create a suitable garment for a TVC. Discussions on how and where to fit garments. Teacher to demonstrate techniques and appropriate solutions.
Students must always comply with OH&S requirements.

Discuss stitching terminology solutions appropriate to required tasks. Hand out stitching techniques of various seam types. Demonstrate hand sewing techniques. Discuss trims and accessories. Introduction to specification/sequence plan sheets and their purpose. Students to start entering samples into visual style journal, (A4 worlbook).
Refer to notes for required stitch types. |

This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Design Studio Processes - Knowledge Task: you will be asked to answer questions relating to your understanding of fashion tools and equipment, design elements and principles, body morphology, characteristics of the target market, communication skills, safety requirements and standard operating procedures of working in a design studio. Due Week 5.
Assessment Task 2: Fashion Styling Tool Kit: This assessment allows you to demonstrate your competence in determining job requirements, preparing for design and production, safely undertaking design and production processes and in reviewing both design and production processes. Due Week 10.
Assessment Task 3: Fashion Styling Design Project: In this assessment you will create a look for a talent (client) that draws upon your own research, design and production skills whilst following safe studio processes and work operations using appropriate PPE. Due Week 15.
