Overview of Assessment

In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:

Performance Evidence

 Evidence of the ability to:

  • analyse the technical requirements for a dynamic web site
  • produce software design specifications
  • create a website, using efficient and effective code to meet the technical requirements, and test and document a website against the requirements.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, you must:

  • summarise the principles of analysis and design
  • outline programming control and design structures, and object-oriented programming
  • explain web programming concepts, including:
    • authentication and web security
    • hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)
    • session management
    • stateless programming.

 Assessment Conditions

Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates  consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the website technologies field of work, and include access to:

  • a development environment
  • a server
  • a database server
  • browsers.

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Feedback

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions.  You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.

You should take note of all feedback received and use this information to improve your learning outcomes and final performance in the course.

Assessment Tasks

There are TWO assessment tasks in this course. You must successfully complete all sections of each assessment tasks to be deemed competent in this course.

Assessment 1 - Individual Dynamic Website (Due date: Refer to Teaching Schedule)

For this assessment task you are required to design and build a blog using PHP procedural code

  • This project will be built over 7 weeks and all files will need to be uploaded to the RMIT server on a weekly basis
  • The PHP website will connect to a MySQL database consisting of two tables
  • The database will store information on PHP & SQL concepts, website design, error messages and general dynamic website creation
  • The website must demonstrate searching, selecting, inserting, updating and deleting database records using MySQLi and PHP procedural code.
  • All data will need to be inserted into the database via an HTML form and validated using client-side script (JavaScript).
  • The completed PHP blog should be formatted and styled using HTML5 and CSS3 and contain a clear navigation.
  • Prior to submission, the website must be thoroughly tested in a variety of browsers

Late submissions of the project will be eligible for grading at CAG (Competency Achieved) level only.

Assessment 2 - Group Project (dynamic website) (Due date: Refer to Teaching Schedule)

For this assessment task you are required to work in pairs (groups of 2) and develop a dynamic e-commerce website. You will be required to explore and use both procedural  and object oriented code.

The e-commerce website should contain a catalogue of products / services and one of the following

Review page

Forum

Shopping cart (using sessions)

Your website will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Connection to a MySQL database (multiple tables)
  • SQL querying of the database records – search, insert, update and delete
  • Validation and sanitization of data (security issues)
  • Session-based user login – created using object oriented PHP
  • A navigation system using login sessions to distinguish between administration and user tasks
  • Formatting and styling with HTML5 and CSS3

A planning and design document including an overview of the required database tables and fields must be approved by the teacher before commencing any project work.

Your website will need to be uploaded to RMIT’s hosting server and thoroughly tested in a variety of browsers and platforms

A testing document outlining browsers and platforms used for testing must be submitted with the completed project

All students are required to attend an interview with the teacher where they will demonstrate their project and answer questions about the code

Late submissions of the project will be eligible for grading at CAG (Competency Achieved) level only.

Assessment Matrix

The Assessment Matrix that maps all assessments to the critical aspects of evidence, skills, knowledge and elements is available from the teacher.

Other Information

Submission Requirements

You should:

·  Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.

·  Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)

·  When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work.  On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work.  An assignment cover sheet for submission of each assessment task is available on blackboard.

·  Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.   For example, Julie Macpherson, 324567, Task 2, OHS2345C Ensure safe workplace, Page 1 of 10.

Late Submission Procedures

You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.

If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.
