Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role.

This unit applies to community services and health workers who play a proactive role in identifying and meeting their legal and ethical responsibilities.

This unit is delivered and assessed in a cluster with;

Teaching Schedule

Classes are delivered over 3 days each month. The timetable will be available on enrolment. 

This session, students will develop the skills and knowledge:

 to establish and work within the current context, philosophy and values of the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) sector.

 to identify and work within the legal and ethical frameworks that apply to an individual job role and in identifying and meeting their legal and ethical responsibilities.

 to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Assessment Tasks

There are 8 assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this cluster.

All assessment tasks can be accessed in the student assessment guide which is provided by the Teacher prior to the commencement of each cluster.

Task 1:

The task allows you to demonstrate your research and critical thinking skills in finding and reviewing key information needed to inform your practice as a worker in the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector. This assignment It is divided into 3 research areas.

Part A: Research the Alcohol and other Drugs Context

Part B Drug fundamentals, drug use and impact

Part C Alcohol and Other Drugs services

Task 2:

This task asks you to reflect on the context and practice in alcohol and other drugs work. It addresses the context that you work in and the approaches used by you and your organisation. You can draw from your current or recent work experience in the AOD sector when responding to the questions.

Task 3:

Your workplace supervisor is asked to complete a third party report. Please familiarise yourself with the items that your supervisor will be looking for in your workplace performance in the marking criteria.

Task 4:

This short answer task you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this cluster. This assessment tasks allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of key concepts in working with diverse people in the AOD context.

Task 5:

This task allows you to demonstrate your understanding of the challenges that you can face when working in the AOD sector while recognising and respecting the social and cultural backgrounds of clients. It will also allow you to reflect on your own perspectives on diversity and demonstrate your understanding of various communication strategies.
