Course Description

The ability to effectively operate sound equipment is crucial to working in the live production industries.

In this course you will have the opportunity to learn about more complex audio signal flow and processing systems to achieve greater sound control and creativity. In the course you will work collaboratively with other students and an industry professional to create a final sound balance for a range of recorded and live (or simulated) productions.

Weekly Guide & Assessment

This course is called VART6382C Create a Final Sound Balance .

The following course for LPTS is extremely intensive and it is encouraged that all students attend weekly. The bulk of the unit aims to give you an understanding of the importance of being self-motivated, an essential prerequisite for survival in the Live Production Industry. There will be multiple areas where you can work on the diverse projects that are required for final assessment. Please be prepared for this unit by having a notebook available at all times as there are many new concepts that you will be introduced to. Not only will you be exposed to audio production via new mediums but also it is hoped that you will achieve a far broader understanding of the processes of audio that can be applied to using sound in the field of live production. You will also be required to supply USB sticks for working with throughout the semester.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course will involve demonstration of practical tasks and testing of your knowledge.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course and will include a range of practical and theory components. Full assessment briefs will be provided and can be found on Canvas.

This is a Vocational Education and Training qualification and is assessed for Competency. To be assessed as Competent means you have consistently demonstrated the required knowledge and skills at a standard required in the workplace. To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Results that apply to courses that are delivered and assessed in accordance with competency-based assessment are:

There are three assessments in this course.

You should refer to the assessment brief which is available through Canvas for full assessment criteria

Assessment Task 1:SFX Comp Due date: 6th March 2020;

In class, you will complete a short video bounce, including (A) supplied guide video and (B) requested audio files that you will source and insert, and upload the bounced file to CANVAS.

Assessment Task 2:Radio Ad Due date: 24th April 2020;

You will produce a 30 second radio ad to broadcast standards. This project has no creative limitations except it must not be R rated. HAVE FUN WITH IT. The student will source suitable music for the ad, making sure that writer credits are clearly stated in the final submission package and write and record a voice over mixing both

Assessment Task 3:Music Mix Due date: 29th May 2020;

The aim is to create a music mix that uses common attributes found in music production. IE: Panning, Balance, Equalisation, Compression, Gates and Effects. Each student will submit 2 mixes as bounces from Pro Tools
