This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to undertake a training needs analysis (TNA) to identify the training and assessment needs of an organisation.

1. Identify the organisation's needs
1.1 Discuss with relevant staff from the organisation their objectives, expectations and organisational requirements
1.2 Use appropriate communication and interpersonal skills to develop a professional relationship with the organisation
1.3 Identify, analyse and address any existing, or potential, issues that may impact on the organisation’s objectives and requirements
1.4 Identify and access resources, in accordance with organisational requirements
1.5 Develop a project plan for the conduct of the TNA with relevant persons to be negotiated and agreed by the organisation
2. Conduct training needs analysis
2.1 Use reliable, appropriate and efficient methods for collecting information and data on current, emerging and future training needs
2.2 Analyse the organisation’s work roles to determine skills and competencies needed for effective performance
2.3 Follow legal, organisational and ethical requirements to gather information and data, to assess the current skills and competencies of staff

3.1 Provide the organisation with clear advice and recommendations on training and assessment needs in the format preferred by the client organisation

3.4 Use legal requirements to process, complete and present final report to the organisation

Details of Learning Activities
This course is online. Activities may include:
- Online activities which includes a weekly webinar which is recorded for those that don't attend live.
- Direct observation of actual and simulated work practice
- Oral or written questioning
- Assignments and projects
- Presentation of a portfolio of evidence which may comprise documents and/or photographs and/or video and audio files
- Review of products produced through work-based or course activities
- Third-party feedback from a work supervisor/employer
This course is taught in 4 sessions in semester one.

Overview of Assessment
During the program you will complete assessment tasks which are listed in detail at the beginning of each cluster. These tasks may include:
- Workplace based projects
- Online assessment (eg discussion forum, blog, wiki, quiz)
- Professional conversation
- Third-party reports

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following three (3) tasks to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive written feedback on all assessment tasks.
Task 1: First training needs analysis
Research, conduct and provide advice through a training needs analysis. You must demonstrate
- processes that were used to determine the organisation’s needs
- details of research methods undertaken to identify suitable training and/or assessment
- planning for the training needs analysis
- the presentation of advice and recommendations
Task 2: Second training needs analysis
Research, conduct and provide advice through a second training needs analysis, as per Task 1 above
Task 3: Knowledge Questions:
In this task you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge relating to the Knowledge Evidence Requirements for the unit TAETAS501 Undertake Organisational Training Needs Analysis. This knowledge underpins your ability to plan, conduct and analyse data for a TNA.
This is an open book assessment. You should respond to the eight (8) questions in the student answer sheet found in Section B of your assessment task. Your responses should be in your own words with each response should be between 150 and 200 words and in sentences.
Further details of the above assessment tasks will be provided in session 1, semester 1 via the Canvas LMS.
It is a requirement of the Dip Training Design and Development (TAE50216) program that all assessment work be submitted electronically through Canvas. You are asked to submit any workplace projects as a single Word or PDF file; multiple project files will not be accepted.

An assessment matrix will be made available in the first week of study in semester 1 via the Canvas LMS.
