Course Description


This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to design and develop e-learning resources.

This unit includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

 This course is online. Activities may include:

• blog/wiki discussion and participation
• participation in online discussion boards/threads and Collaborate sessions or other webinar-type activities
• keeping an online reflective journal
• analysis/critique of relevant reading material
• individual or group projects conducted through electronic media
• peer teaching and workshop presentations
• online research


Teaching Schedule

 

For students who commence February 2018

This course is taught over 3 sessions in semester 1 2018. 

Note: While your teacher will cover all the material in this schedule, the order is subject to change depending on class needs.

 

Session 1: 

Clarify what is needed in an e-learning resource; determine its focus and purpose; research your target audience; research options to meet needs of target audience; consult with clients/end-users. Identify the relevant people to collaborate with on the development of the e-learning resources; determine the timelines and resource issues for the production of the e-learning resource; consult and use relevant technical guidelines and requirements; address any identified legal or ethical obligations or issues that arise in the development of the e-learning resource

 

Session 2: 

Use knowledge and experience in learning theory and instructional design  to create the design for the e-learning resource; consider resources, materials and technical requirements needed for development of the e-learning resource based on the design; present and discuss the design with the client and obtain further feedback of the e-learning resource; incorporate feedback and address any additional issues in the design; confirm with client the design to be developed into the e-learning resource. Develop content and technical framework of the e-learning resources, and address any issues as they arise with relevant persons; document the development of the e-learning resource

 

Session 3: 

Determine how to conduct a trial and review of the resource; consult with key stakeholders for feedback; determine measures for effectiveness and quality of the resource; make recommendations for improvements; implement changes and document as part of a continuous improvement strategy.

Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following tasks to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive written feedback on all assessment tasks. 

 

Task 1: Design, develop then trial and review one e-learning resource

Research, design and develop one (1) e-learning resource that reflects client needs and the contexts of application with documented evidence of:

Complete the development of the resource with documented evidence of:

  • consultation, research and findings
  • completed designs for the resource
  • a review and trial of the resource, including user feedback and how this impacted on the development of the resource
  • the final e-learning resource, either complete or in part or sample
  • the candidate’s specific role in the development process.

 

Task 2: Design and develop one e-learning resource

Research, design and develop one (1) e-learning resource that reflects client needs and the contexts of application with documented evidence of:

  • consultation, research and findings
  • completed designs for the resource

Submission deadlines

2018 February intake

  • Task 1 needs to be submitted by midnight Friday 18 May 2018
  • Task 2 needs to be submitted by midnight Friday 1 June 2018

 

It is a requirement of the Dip Training Design and Development (TAE50216) program that all assessment work be submitted electronically in Canvas. You are asked to submit any workplace projects as a single Word or PDF file which must include a signed RMIT Cover Sheet; multiple project files will not be accepted.

Grades used in this unit are as follows:
