Course Description

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide leadership in assessment validation processes.

It applies to experienced practitioners who work under limited supervision and who are responsible for the validation of assessment processes, both internally and externally.

2.4 Determine and confirm participants in validation, and organise any materials and resources needed for validation

2.5 Provide guidance to support participants throughout the validation process

2.6 Finalise and process validation documentation in accordance with assessment system, legal and organisational procedures, and present to relevant people, within an agreed timeframe

2.7 Identify recommendations from validation processes, and forward to the appropriate authority

 This course is online. Activities may include but not limited to:

Teaching Schedule

For students who commenced their Diploma study in February 2019

This course is taught over 3 sessions in semester 2 2019 


Note: While your teacher will cover all the material in this schedule, the order is subject to change depending on student needs.

Session 1 - August 19:

Work with colleagues to systematically monitor assessment practice; actively engage with, and support, other assessors as they work to improve assessment practice; analyse assessment records ensuring legal, organisational and ethical requirements are being met, and appropriate advice is provided to improve record keeping

Session 2 - August 26: 

Initiate validation in line with Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) guidelines and organisational, legal and ethical requirements; undertake risk assessment and analysis to determine the purpose, focus and context of validation activities; consider and determine approaches to validation.

Session 3 - September 9:

Determine and confirm participants in validation, and organise any materials and resources needed for validation; provide guidance to support participants throughout the validation process; finalise and process validation documentation in accordance with assessment system, legal and organisational procedures, and present to relevant people, within an agreed timeframe; identify recommendations from validation processes, and forward to the appropriate authority

Overview of Assessment

During the program you will complete assessment tasks which are listed, in detail, at the beginning of the course. These tasks may include :

  • Workplace based projects
  • Online assessment (eg discussion forum, blog, wiki, quiz)
  • Professional conversation
  • Third-party reports

Assessment Tasks

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete all of the following tasks to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive written feedback on all assessment tasks.
 

Task 1: Lead validation/moderation (Case Study)

Provide evidence of how you have taken responsibility for initiating, organising, leading and facilitating assessment validation/moderation on one occasion. Demonstrate how the outcomes of validation/moderation and appeals were used to improve assessment practice. This assessment task will be based on a Case Study supplied by your facilitator.

Task 2: Conduct validation/moderation on 2 more occasions

Provide evidence of how you have taken responsibility for initiating, organising and facilitating assessment validation/moderation on two more occasions. Demonstrate how the outcomes of validation/moderation and appeals were used to improve assessment practice. One validation must be based on a Unit of Competency from a National Training Package, the second validation can be based on an Enterprise Benchmark/Standard or a Unit of Competency from a National Training Package

Task 3: Knowledge Questions

You will be asked to answer a series of Knowledge Questions relating to TAEASS503 Lead Assessment Validation Processes

 

Further details of the above assessment tasks will be provided in session 1 of semester 2 via the Canvas LMS

It is a requirement of the Diploma of Training Design & Development (TAE50216) program that all assessment work be submitted electronically via Canvas. You are asked to submit any workplace projects as a single Word or PDF file which must include a signed RMIT Cover Sheet; multiple project files will not be accepted.
