Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to obtain and interpret information about client health status and to check a client’s physical health. It requires a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

This course applies to individuals working directly with clients and who assist in the provision of health care services. Some disciplines may be subject to state/territory regulatory determination regarding delegation and supervision.

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.


This course includes clinical placement.

Learning Outcomes


The critical learning for this course takes place in clinical placement within the health sector and within simulations in RMIT laboratories.

You will be instructed in skills through demonstration, modelling and role-play. Skills development is supported by lectures on theory and underpinning knowledge, classroom discussions, group work, research and reflective practice.

On completion of this course you should be able to:

Details of Learning Activities

Learning activities will consist of a number of face to face classes, incorporating powerpoint presentations, flipped classrooms and activities; plus, a number of self directed learning activities available to be completed at your own pace.

There will also be a possibility of a dissection Lab, pending availability of resources, and skills and knowledge learned in this course will be incorporated, throughout this course, into skills Labs from other courses.

There will be a variety of different activities available on CANVAS

You are not required to purchase any specific text, however most of the teaching will be done using Marieb, E. (2018) Essentials of human anatomy and physiology. Pearson. San Francisco


Overview of Assessment

 

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including written, oral, practical tasks and activities.

 

You will be asked to personally demonstrate to your teacher/assessor the practical skills gained during this course to the relevant industry standards. Assessment activities will occur throughout this course and feedback will be provided at regular intervals

 To be deemed competent you must demonstrate an understanding of all aspects required of the competency. Assessment methods have been designed to measure your achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.

 

 

 

                 

 


Assessment Tasks

There are 3 overall assessments for this course.

 You must be deemed satisfactory for each of these assessment tasks.

Assessment Task 1 (part A and Part B) - Two (2) closed book written tests that will be conducted over 2 hrs on a set dates throughout the course, with conditions applied to ensure it is your own knowledge being tested. This will incorporate anatomy, physiology and medical terminology knowledge testing.  Pass mark for this assessment task is 60%.

Assessment Task 2 - A written test containing a series of questions designed to test your anatomy, physiology and medical terminology knowledge.  This will be in a case study format and be submitted via CANVAS online

Assessment Task 3 - Clinical Placement.

 

You are permitted to have a maximum of 2 re-submissions for this course, however each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once.  Re-submissions are not automatic and will only be approved at the discretion of the program coordinator after consultation with the teacher.

All re-submissions must be completed and submitted no more than 7 days after your work has been assessed.    Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.
