Course Description
This course describes the nursing skills and knowledge required to work in a primary health care environment including community-based, educational, occupational and informal settings, and in general practice.
Primary health care involves a person-centred and holistic approach to health care. It is made accessible to people by being located as close as possible to where they live, and supporting their full participation in a spirit of self-reliance and self-determination.
This course applies to enrolled nursing work carried out in consultation and collaboration with registered nurses and under supervisory arrangements aligned to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia regulatory authority legislative requirements.
This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.
This course includes clinical placement.

Details of Learning Activities
Learning activities for this unit HLTENN015 will include online classes as well as practical labs with a clinical placement component. You will be expected to utilise the worldwide web, focusing on Australian primary health care providers and support, to enhance your learning and complete assessments.
This course includes a clinical placement which for many students is one of their favourite times during the course. More than 80% of students will be allocated a rural placement is a primary health centre / GP clinic. This is an opportunity to visit a rural centre and for our international students, see more of Australia.
You will be able to develop and practice first aid skills suitable for you to use as a nurse in primary health. This is not a first aid certificate course.

Overview of Assessment
This assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including written, oral, practical tasks and activities.
You will be asked to personally demonstrate to your teacher/assessor the practical skills gained during this course to the relevant industry standards. Assessment activities will occur throughout this course and feedback will be provided at regular intervals
Assessment Tasks
Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Assessment
Guidelines will be provided for this Assessment Task 1: Knowledge Assessment.
This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of the primary health care environment including community-based, educational and informal setting and in general practice.
Assessment Task 2: Assessment Task 2: First Aid management and Practical Assessment
This practical assessment task is the second of third assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit.
This practical assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to initiate appropriate first aid and other emergency treatment according to organization policy and procedure. In the Nursing laboratory, you will need to demonstrate practical first aid skills that will be observed and assessed by your Course Educators.
Assessment Task 3: Clinical Placement
You be required to complete 1 week of primary health care placement.
During placement, you will review and update a care plan for a patient to address their specific primary health care needs in consultation with a registered Nurse.

Attendance
You are to attend all sessions in order to engage in the required learning activities, ensure the maximum opportunity and gain competency in the course.

You must be competent in all elements to successfully complete the course
You are permitted to have a maximum of 2 re submissions for this course; however each individual assessment may only be resubmitted once.

All re submissions must be completed and submitted no more than 7 days after our work has been assessed.
Please note an opportunity to repeat clinical placement is not guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the clinical Coordinator/Program Manager.
