Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to establish standards for the design and production of organisational documents and to manage document design and production processes to ensure agreed standards are met.
It applies to individuals employed in a range of work environments who require well-developed skills in the use of a range of software packages. They use these skills to establish, document and implement consistent standards of document design within an organisation.

Overview of Assessment
In order to achieve competency in this unit, you must provide:
Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to:
identify the organisational needs, requirements and information technology capabilities relevant to the design and production of documents
establish documentation standards to meet organisational requirements
design, test and amend document templates
develop and implement documentation and training to support use of standard templates and macros
monitor the implementation of standard documentation templates and macros and make improvements in line with organisational requirements.
Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.
Knowledge Evidence
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
describe document production processes
identify costs involved with the implementation of standard documentation
explain the software applications relevant to document design and development in the organisation
identify key provisions of relevant legislation and regulations, codes and standards affecting document production
outline organisational policies and procedures relating to document production
list sources of expertise available externally to the organisation or workgroup.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in the general administration field of work and include access to:
computer hardware and other document production equipment
software applications appropriate to the task
media for production of documents
samples of high quality standard documents.
Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.

You are encouraged to ask and answer questions during class time and online sessions so that you can obtain feedback on your understanding of the concepts and issues being discussed. Finally, you can email or arrange an appointment with your teacher to gain more feedback on your progress.

You will be using the professional documents from the Simulated Business Website http://simbuscommunity.com.au/
They can include business templates, style guides, policies and procedures, procedure manuals.
Overview
There are two tasks for this course. Task 1 Portfolio consists of ten weeks Microsoft Word and five weeks of Microsoft Excel. One week is course review. This course continues into a second semester, where a final grade is awarded for Task 2: Project document design framework.

PORTFOLIO
This assessment is a progressive collection of your weekly work which will be submitted to blackboard in the designated dropbox. You will work in a self-paced manner using the exercise files downloaded by you from the Tilde website www.tilde.com.au. Refer to the textbooks on the procedure to download. You are expected to work through the textbook completing all procedural steps before you attempt the assessable activity. During this time in class you will have demonstrations of technique by the teacher and you will refer to Lynda.com (in RMIT library https://shib.lynda.com/InCommon in order to complete training modules where you will download a pdf certificate in your name. You are also expected to learn the touch-typing technique according to Australian Standard AS2708-2001. You will then be invited to do keyboarding speed tests where a school prize is offered to the student with the highest speed and accuracy for the Manage Business Document Design and Development course in 2017.
Check the dates in the course guide for submission dates and put the dates in your diary or phone calendar. The final portfolio is then submitted in Week 15 on Friday 26 May 2017 at 5.00pm. The work will be done by you in class.
You will receive feedback on each activity that you do for the portfolio, it will give you direction about your standard of performance. At the end of semester 2, you will receive a final grade.

Submission Requirements
You should:
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.
• Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
• When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work. An assignment cover sheet for submission of each assessment task is available on blackboard.

Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.

Resubmissions
If you are found to be unsuccessful in a Course Assessment Task you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission. The highest grade you will receive if your resubmission is successful is “CAG”.
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.

Grading Criteria Task 1 –Portfolio
An indicative grade only will be available at the completion of Semester 1. A final grade cannot be awarded until a student has demonstrated competency in all elements of this course - at the end of Semester 2.
