Course Description

In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required to follow organisational policies and procedures for safe work practice. 

On completion of the unit you will have an understanding of the requirements for all employees under state and territory Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation, to participate in the management of their own health and safety, that of their colleagues and anyone else in the workplace.

1. Act safely in the workplace.

Performance Criteria:

1.1.Follow workplace procedures for safe work practice.

1.2.Follow safety instructions from supervisors, managers and workplace safety signage, and observe other risk control measures.

1.3.Use personal protective equipment and safe manual handling techniques to protect self as required.

1.4.Work safely around dangerous goods and substances.

1.5.Identify and remove safety hazards, and report all workplace hazards as they arise.

1.6.Promptly report unsafe work practices, incidents and accidents.

Performance Criteria:

2.1.Recognise emergency and potential emergency situations, and follow procedures.

2.2.Follow procedures for reporting of emergency incidents.

Details of Learning Activities

Contribute to workplace health and safety is what is known as a "clustered course". In this course OHTH 5976C "Contribute to Workplace Safety" (National training Code SIRXWHS002) is delivered in combination with MKTG 8026C "Design and Install Merchandise Signage" (National training Code SIRRMER011). We call this combination of units - Propmaking 

Learning activities will take place in a classroom using industry standard tools and resources.

You will also be required to undertake independent study.
Reference mode of delivery for this course is a blended approach

In-class activities will include:
• Tutorials and project based work
• Group discussion
• Teacher directed activities/projects

Out-of-class activities will include:
• Online investigation
• Independent project based work
• Gallery/Exhibition visits

By the end of this course you should be able to create a range of signage and props, and have a solid grounding in working safely in the workplace.

To be assessed as Competent in this course, you will need to complete each assessment task to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task and receive either Satisfactory or Not Satisfactory (S/NS) outcome.
