Course Description

The purpose of this course is to provide training on non metallic aerospace materials and related processes.
This course develops an understanding of the structure, properties and the use of polymeric materials, composite materials and adhesives in engineering applications.

Learning Outcomes

1. Explain and conduct tests to demonstrate the properties of plastics used in the aerospace industry.
2. Explain the classifications, characteristics and quality requirements of adhesive used in the aerospace industry.
3. Explain and analyse the use of composites in aircraft construction and the distribution of stresses within a composite section.


Overview of Assessment

To successfully to complete this course the student is required to pass written assessment tasks and demonstrate skills and ability by completing practical tasks to aerospace standards.
