Course Description

This course contains some of the underpinning knowledge of a program, which designed for a person to be able to undertake design, select, install, commission, maintain and carry out repairs on advanced electronic equipment and systems.
The Knowledge and skills addressed in this course include: Fundamental mathematical operations, Basic Electrical Principles and problem solving techniques, Basic Electronic principle and application of Operational amplifier, Practical skills in electrical circuit construction, measurement and testing.

Details of Learning Activities

Participate in individual small research projects in designated areas of underpinning knowledge including:
• Elementary Boolean algebra and logic circuits
• Indices and Logarithms
• Trigonometric functions
• Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
• Complex numbers
• Basic Electrical principles
• Measurement techniques for various electrical quantities
• Fundamental electronic concepts and measurements
• Principle and applications of operational amplifier

Participate in individual and team problem solving scenarios/role plays/ case studies dealing with a range of practical exercises related to:
• DC series and parallel circuit
• Operating principles of small signal amplifier
• Operating principles, characteristic and applications of an ideal & practical operational amplifier

Participate in supervised workshop practice in simulated workplace environment, including:
• Electrical circuit construction, measurement and testing
• Design and construction of DC circuits, development of testing procedure to verify the performance specification, diagnosis of faults in the systems and repair the fault. Specifications will be provided
• Design and construction of operational amplifier circuits, development of testing procedure to verify the performance specification, diagnosis of faults in the systems and repair the fault. Specifications will be provided with work simulation (team or individual basis) or may be negotiated to suit a workplace based application.

Overview of Assessment

This is a progressive assessment, the underpinning knowledge will be assessed on the completion of each course, but the competency itself will not be signed off until further courses related to the competency are completed and the student is deemed competent.
The students are required to undertake summative assessments as follows:
• Progressive Written Assessments
• Written Assignments
• Scheduled Practical Exercises
• Work Simulation Projects


Assessment Tasks

1. 3 Progressive written assessments.
2. Work-simulation projects and assignments will be assessed by a formal open book written test.
3. Scheduled Practical Exercises (must pass all practical exercises).

 
To pass this course, student must complete all the scheduled practical exercises and required report-submissions, and pass all the written examinations.
