Course Description
In this unit you will develop knowledge and skills in establishing, maintaining and evaluating the organisation’s occupational health and safety (OHS) policies, procedures and programs in the relevant work area in accordance with OHS legal requirements. All those who have (or are likely to have) a management responsibility for OHS should undertake this unit.
Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
Students are assumed to be experienced disability staff working in the disability or community services fields.

Learning Outcomes
By completing this unit you will achieve and demonstrate competence in the following elements;
- Establish and maintain an OHS system
- Establish and maintain a participative arrangements for the management of OHS
- Establish and maintain procedures for identifying hazards and assessing and controlling risks
- Establish and maintain a quality OHS system
Overview of Assessment
Assessment will be through a mix of in-class tasks, workplace based projects and a workplace assessment. A workplace assessment appointment will be undertaken once per year with each student to allow students to present and discuss workplace evidence.
