Course Description

This unit of competency sets out the knowledge and skills required to research careers and training opportunities in the Manufacturing and Engineering Industry and develop an individual career path plan. This involves examining the range of activities the industry covers, the types of occupations that are available and the training pathways that can lead to those occupations.

Application of Unit:
This unit of competency is intended to apply to any recognised development program that leads to the acquisition of a formal award at AQF level 3 or higher.
The skills and knowledge described in this unit do not require a licence to practice in the workplace. However, practice in this unit is subject to regulations directly related to occupational health and safety and where applicable contracts of training such as apprenticeships and traineeships

Details of Learning Activities

You will:

  • Research the engineering and manufacturing sectors in Australia
  • Research the specific industry that you wish to start your career in (both Nationally and at the State level)
  • Identify and describe the major occupations and career paths within your target industry
  • Assess and describe your own skills and interests
  • Identify your preferred entry occupational area (i.e. goal) and the training pathways for entering it
  • Develop a strategy for achieving your career entry goal
  • Obtain feedback from suitable people on your career path plan and update your plan (as needed).

The total number of scheduled hours of teaching, learning and assessment involved in this course includes face to face classes, lectures, workshops and seminars; workplace visits, online learning and other forms of structured teaching and learning. It also covers the amount of effort necessary to undertake, evaluate and complete all assessment requirements, observation of work performance, discussions with supervisors and others persons and one on one and group assessment sessions with students.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including written/oral activities and demonstration of practical skills to the relevant industry standards. Participants are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment activities to their teacher/assessor. Feedback will be provided throughout the course.

Late submission:
