Course Description

This unit of competency sets out the knowledge and skills required to apply modelling techniques to create 3D solid model assemblies for computer processing and presentation purposes. This includes applications in CAD, computer graphics and animation, rapid prototyping, medical testing, and visualisation of scientific research.

4. The completion of the solid modelling assembly task is notified and outcomes are discussed with appropriate personnel.

1. OH&S requirements for carrying out the work are followed
2. The drawing task associated with solid model assembly is undertaken according to enterprise procedures.
3. The most appropriate modelling and assembly methodology is chosen for the given assembly task.
4. Key assembly features of the solid modelling package are fully exploited to optimise productivity.
5. Decisions for dealing with unexpected situations are made from discussions with appropriate personnel, job specifications and enterprise procedures.
6. Methods for dealing with unexpected situations are selected on the basis of safety and specified work outcomes.

Performance Criteria:

1. OH&S and environmental requirements for a given work area are obtained and understood.
2. Established OH&S requirements and risk control measures and procedures in preparation for the work area are followed.
3. Safety hazards which have not previously been identified are documented and risk control measures devised and implemented in consultation with appropriate personnel.
4. Solid modelling assembly task requirements are identified from documentation, job sheets or through discussions with appropriate personnel.
5. Appropriate personnel are consulted to ensure the work is coordinated effectively with others involved in the work site.
6. Resources and equipment needed for the solid modelling assembly task are obtained in accordance with enterprise procedures and checked for correct operation and safety

Students will use SOLID WORKS software to learn to:

Create , assemble and 2D presentation of different parts.
How to use different planes, loft and advance modelling.
Using design centre, import standard parts like bearing, Screws.. etc  and assemble them.
Perform motion simulation and collision detection.
2D presentation .
Bill of material and Quantity generation.

Assessment Tasks

As This Course is based on Competency Method, Student Must demonstrate in the class about their competency and in Competency Test.

The Break up of assessment Task will be:-

1. Class exercise

2. Group work Projects (Four students in Group)

3. Competency Test

It is very Important that all the Project work  Should be done in the class and prove your competency to the class teacher. All Four project works include assembly,

simulation and 2D presentation.

Other Information

Students are advised to attend all the class. Students are asked to strictly follow the RMIT policy  and procedure for Occupational, Health and Safety requirements in Computer LAB. Copy of  these are available at Student drive under Mechanical and manufacturing folder - PROC -5233 - Annotate and create .... (vettri).  This subject is Competency based, Students are required to demonstrate their competency and Skills and Knowledge for this module in class to your teacher. Competency Rest will be conducted in the Computer Lab. Date and Time will be informed later. 

 

Tests are conducted under closed book conditions.

Late submission:
