Course Description

This course deals with the skills and knowledge required to recruit and select staff within the framework of existing human or staffing resource plans or policies in the justice environment.  It supports the attainment of skills and knowledge required for job roles that involve human resource management including professional development, staffing, recruiting, induction practices and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

Details of Learning Activities

Students will be involved in a range of learning activities including: lectures,  tuturials, class discussion, group/individual work on designated tasks, audio-visual presentations, and interactions with individuals and groups from human resources departments of the justice environemnt

Introduction to Human Resource in a Justice Environment and analysis of job roles, skill sets and capabiliies

Week 2

Identify the need for a position in the context of the organisational goals and objectives

Develop job descriptions, personnel specifications and key selection criteria

Week 3

Identify selection procedures in compliance with with legislative and organisational requirements

Week 4

Communicating in a range of organisational environments

Week 5

Identify different selection processes and techniques

Week 6

Simulated interviews addressing key selection criteria

Overview of Assessment

Students will be required to:

Prepare a report outlining skill sets and capabilities that are necessary to meet the organisational goals and objectives of a justice organisation

Prepare an analysis of recruitment ,selection strategies and legislative compliance relevant to a justice organisation


Assessment Tasks

Assessment 1:     The report will contribute 55% of the overall mark

Assessement 2:   The analysis of the recruitment process will contribute 30% of the overall mark

Active participation and interactive involvement will contribute 15% of the overall mark

 

Assessment activities are linked to the learning outcomes and will assess knowledge of current professional practices relating to employment, interview techniques and procesures.  Students will also be required to demonsrate their skills in problem solving, communicating in a range of organisational environments and addressing the skill sets to meet organisational requirements and objectives
