Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge associated with developing textile designs and specifications for production and the testing and analysis associated with developing design specifications.
Textile material and products for which product specifications are developed in the textile sector include fibres, fabrics, yarns and finished products.

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

Students must complete the following courses before undertaking this unit
VART 5905C Use of colour in textiles
VART 5903C Textile design influences
VART 5904C Development of textile designs
VART 5909C Present textile design concept

This unit is delivered concurrently with elective production units
VART 5914C Design and Produce Knitted Products
VART 5916C Design and Produce Woven Products
MANU 7226C Design and Produce Printed Textiles
and

VART 5905C Develop Textile Designs Using Computer Based Programs

Overview of Assessment

To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency.

Assessment tasks have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including:

* Submission and presentation of Project Briefs and Folios
* Technical folders and documentation
* Oral presentations

Details of Assessment will be provided with project biref in class sessions
Students will be awarded a grade only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period on the first assessment attempt.
Units assessed as ‘not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ‘competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but are not eligible for grading.

Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher.
All work must be submitted by the due date.
Late submissions will not be graded higher than a PASS.

Assessment Tasks

Students will undertake major design project will include;

A design folio containing the following
Concept board and design research
A range of coordinate designs into a market sector
Selected designs translated into textile samples

Technical file containing a range of samples detailed specification sheets
Textile testing results

A detailed Proejct brief will be provided in class
