Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to develop designs and produce knitted textile products to meet a specified design brief.

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

Pre-requisites: Students will have needed to complete  LMTTD4001A Produce Knitted Textile Samples

It is recommended that students are enrolled concurrently

LMTTD5008A Develop Textile Design and Specifications and LMTTD5007A Develop Textile Designs Using Computer Based Design Programs.

Learning Outcomes

This studio based course gives students the opportunity through practical projects to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:

  • analyse and interpret design brief
  • apply design processes to development of design
  • communicate design concepts
  • evaluate and modify designs
  • determine production requirements
  • produce knitted textile design product

Students will be required to demonstrate the following skills and knowledge:

  • organising work
  • completing tasks
  • identifying improvements
  • using workplace practices
  • using OH&S practices
  • recording and reporting accidents and incidents
  • assessing operational readiness of equipment used and work processes
  • recognising and adapting to cultural differences in the workplace, including modes of behaviour and interactions
  • completing work systematically with attention to detail without damage to goods and equipment


Overview of Assessment

To achieve successful completion of this course students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of competency.

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Assessment will incorporate a variety of methods including recording all technical documentation in a workbook, exercises completed in class, exercises completed outside class times, producing a workbook of samples, observational checklists completed by the class teacher during class exerices and verbal presentations.

Students will be awarded a grade only if competency has been demonstrated within the standard enrolment period on the first assessment attempt.

Units assessed as ‘not yet competent’ on a first assessment attempt and ‘competent’ on a second or subsequent attempt are to have results amended to competent but are not eligible for grading.

Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher.
All work must be submitted by the due date. Late submission will not be graded higher than a PASS.
