Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to communicate and network with others working along the fashion industry supply chain, to ensure design processes and outcomes meet requirments.

Upon completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate ways of communicating concepts such as ideas and design concepts to fashioin professionals with a range of information needs, through the use of sketches, diagrams, illustrations, samples of fabric, charts, and written descriptions

Demonstrate the use of appropriate industry terminology and language to convey meaning and work effectively with others both within and outside of the workplace.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will enable students to work in a group as well as individually. The assessed learning activities covered are

Assessment 1- Fashion Communications Evaluation -  This assignment is designed to develope students awareness of a range of fashion resources available through various mediums, Students are to select 4 mediums that could be used by a product developer when developing a seasonal range. Students are to describe features of each of these mediums and evaluate the information content in relation to industry requirements.

Assessment 2 - Visual Diary part B - Students are to work in groups, and the aim of this assessment is to finalize preparation and development for range concept design concept  via research, though completing the final developmental stages of a body of work capturing inspirational visuals that reflect all aspecst of ranged development of the forthcoming season directly in relation to the industry partner

Individual Assessment


Aim: This assignment is designed to develop student’s awareness of a range of fashion resources available through various mediums.

Objective: Students are to select 4 different fashion industry communication mediums that could be used by a product range developer when developing a seasonal range. Students are to describe features of each of these mediums and evaluate the information content in relation to industry requirements.

Communication Mediums
Apply your understanding of the role and information needs of a Product Range developer in the process of range development. Tools used by Product Range Developer’s, are to include one of each of the below listed mediums.

Fashion Forecast Medium

Compare and Contrast 2 mediums

1. Complete a table of your findings. Select 2 mediums that you have described above and evaluate the quality of the information provided, how best could the various mediums be utilized in the following processes - forecasting, range development , presentation of fashion concepts, communication of ideas, colour development, include 2 more aspects for comparison you feel relevant to the role of product development.

Assessment 4: Visual Development Diary Part B 30%
Group Assessment



Aim: The aim of this assignment is to assist students to finalize preparation and development for range concept design via research, through completing the final developmental stages of a body of work capturing inspirational visuals that reflect all aspects of range development of the forthcoming season directly in relation to the industry partner.

Objective: Students are to collect sources of inspiration that are specifically related and directed towards their final range concept, as part of “What could have inspired BARDOT”, to design and develop the garment that your group has been allocated. This is to be in the form of photos, postcards, catalogues, fabric swatches, magazine tears, coloured yarn and or textured materials, directly relating to the final themes. Sketches and notes inspired by the visual materials are to be a part of the diary.

Part B of the visual diary needs to encapsulate all areas of your final range development in the areas listed below. Ensure it is totally directed towards your final concept and is directed to reflect the brand Bardot.


Colour Observation
Value 8 %
Research BARDOT current colour palette and display in Visual form.
1. Reference colour palette with pantone colour numbers, Display with correct colour swatches, indicating what you feel is the pop colour
2. Demonstrate which forecast (from Visual Diary Part A) you feel inspired BARDOT’S current palette the most.
3. Include images of colours that the brand has used in the season prior that you are developing
4. Visually demonstrate all aspects of your colour palette development for Bardot Include relevant colour images/ inspiration/ forecasts/ swatches/ photographs/ developmental ideas.
Fabrication
Value 4 %
5. Include 2 inspiration pages demonstrating -How /where/ why you came to include the fabrics within your range, show evidence towards this. You must include relevant swatches, images, photographs, textual references etc.
6. Include at least 2 Fabrics that the brand is using in their current range, Include correct fabric swatches, and Images of Bardot garments, and visually match where you think the idea originated.
Mood board work
Value 8 %
7. Include class exercise mood board work, minimum of 4 mood boards must be included
8. Include class exercise of Trend board relevant to mood board work at least 4 trend boards must be included
Graphic work
Value 2 %
9. Include one page displaying any graphics the brand has used in their previous/current collection, and one page showing what could have inspired Bardot to do this
10. Include inspiration, any direction and final outcome towards your range in relation to the brand and target market.
Silhouette /trend Research
Value 8 %

11. Include at least 8 design development pages of your specific silhouette direction, (sketch/design pages) towards your final range.
12. Show the inspiration behind the range that you have developed. Where the silhouettes been inspired by? Are they part of forecasts? Something you have seen instore etc,
13. Include an Image of your groups allocated garment and one Inspiration page behind the garment showing ““What could have inspired BARDOT” for your final garment.
