Course Description

This unit covers the competency to interpret and use relevant concrete standards and codes to produce drawings for the detailing of reinforced concrete elements of buildings in accordance with accepted practices as outlined in AS 1100.501 and AS 3600.

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

EDX060 – Prepare basic mechanical and civil engineering drawings to AS 1100

MEM30001A - Use computer aided drafting systems to produce basic engineering drawings

Elements:

01. Use relevant codes and current local practice in the production of reinforced concrete drawing related to the proper placement of reinforcement.

02. Draw concrete outlines using plans, sections, views and details.

03. Identify, label and dimension reinforcement.

04.  Draw bar types and shapes, hooks, cogs, bends.

05. Display bars and fabric with reference to other reinforcement, other elements, requirements of appropriate cover

06. Use appropriate system of bar markings to identify reinforcement

07. Prepare bar schedules and calculation of steel quantities.

08. Determine appropriate splice length and anchorage lengths to satisfy various conditions.

09. Detail construction and expansion joints

10.  Consider other design and drafting disciplines involved in a stuctural design project.
