Course Description
This unit covers the competency to use the Australian Standard AS 1170 to determine and to calculate different kinds of loadings on structural elements and to perform analysis of beam and column structures involving calculation of such features as support reactions, shear and bending moments.

01. Use AS/NZS 1170 Parts 0 & 1 to calculate permanent and imposed actions on simple structural elements. 02. Use-AS/NZS 1170 Part 2 to calculate wind action on simple structural elements and closed structures. 03. Calculate loading on structural elements due to liquid pressure. 04. Use AS/NZS 1170 Part 0 to calculate action effects in limit state format. 05. Carry out calculations to determine beam deflection under various action effects and check conformance to serviceability criteria. 06. Carry out a detailed analysis of a structural member subject to compression actions. 07. Carry out analysis of continuous beams. 08. Carry out analysis of simple rectangular frames. 09. Calculate the distribution of forces at joints in accordance with the elements’ stiffness. 10. Write report. |
