Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop keyboard skills with speed and accuracy using touch typing techniques. On successful completion of this unit, individuals must be assessed in accordance with the current version of AS 2708: 2001 and issued with a speed statement.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of the requirements in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks, for example:
• direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
• review of outcomes of keyboarding speed tests
• review of documents for accuracy
• demonstration of techniques.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 – Week 1 – Co-assessed with JUST 5176C
This assessment consists of short answer questions relating to ergonomic requirements, work organisation strategies and energy and resource conservation techniques and relevant legislation.
Assessment 2 – Portfolio of assessments & Keyboarding progress logbook Co-assessed with JUST 5176C
Students will be assessed on the accuracy of the assessment documents created for JUST5176C Prepare and Produce Complex Legal Documents, 98% accuracy is required to be deemed competent.
Students should complete keyboarding progress logbook each week (week 1 to week 12) and submit to teacher on week 12.
Assessment Task 3 - Typing Test Week 13-15
Students will be given five opportunities to show competency for these two elements, completing five-minute speed test using Typing Master in class - 98% of accuracy and typing speed not less than 30 wpm should be achieved. Students will be observed by the assessor whilst completing the speed tests to ensure they use safe work practices.
Submission requirements
You should ensure that you attend class when assessments are being held. If your performance in the assessment is affected by unexpected circumstances or you are unable to attend, you should consider applying for Special Consideration.
To pass this course student must satisfactorily complete and pass each assessment.
Marking Guide
You need to demonstrate you are competent in each element of the unit of competency you are studying.
You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you whether you are competent or not and how well you are performing. Once competent in all elements of the unit you receive a competency grading.
Marking Guide (Grading)
After achieving competency we then grade your performance in the unit; this gives you the opportunity to have the standard of your performance formally recognized against industry standards and employability skills.
