Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to develop keyboard skills with speed and accuracy using touch typing techniques. On successful completion of this unit, individuals must be assessed in accordance with the current version of AS 2708: 2001 and issued with a speed statement.

Students will complete practical exercises in class to help build their speed and accuracy whilst meeting occupational health and safety guidelines.

Delivery schedule
There is no weekly teaching schedule for delivery of course content as the purpose of this offering is to provide you with the necessary support required to assist you to satisfactorily complete the required assessments.
This is a course offering designed for ‘repeating students’ (i.e. those students who have previously enrolled in this course, but who have not satisfactorily completed all of the assessment requirements for this course). It is not intended that the course content be re-taught (or taught for the first time) and so the course will comprise a series of scheduled, facilitated workshops (if enrolment numbers are sufficient) or, where enrolment numbers don’t warrant the use of workshops, a mentoring system whereby you will engage with your course teacher at a mutually agreed time to receive the same kind of support that might otherwise have been provided in a facilitated workshop.
At any rate, the focus of the workshops or mentoring arrangements is the preparation for, and undertaking of, whatever assessments are need to complete the requirements of this course.
Notes:
(1) Your class teacher will confirm the schedule of workshops (where applicable).
(2) If you have enrolled in this course with the belief or understanding that you would receive regular, classroom content teaching, then you are advised to withdraw from this course prior to census date, unless you now wish to accept the proposed mode of delivery for repeating classes as described earlier in this section.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of the requirements in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks, for example:
• direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
• review of outcomes of keyboarding speed tests
• review of documents for accuracy
• demonstration of techniques.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 – To be advised – Co-assessed with JUST 5176C
This assessment consists of short answer questions relating to ergonomic requirements, work organisation strategies and energy and resource conservation techniques and relevant legislation.
Assessment 2 – Keyboarding progress logbook - To be advised - Co-assessed with JUST 5176C
You will be assessed on the accuracy of the assessment documents created for JUST5176C Prepare and Produce Complex Legal Documents, 98% accuracy is required to be deemed competent.
You should complete the keyboarding progress logbook each week and submit to this to your course teacher as instructed.
Assessment Task 3 - Typing Test - To be advised
You will be given five opportunities to show competency for these two elements, completing five-minute speed test using Typing Master in class - 98% of accuracy and typing speed not less than 30 wpm should be achieved.
You will be observed by the assessor whilst completing the speed tests to ensure you use safe work practices.
To pass this course you must satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks.

You should:
Ensure that you attend class when assessments are being held. If your performance in the assessment is affected by unexpected circumstances or you are unable to attend, you should consider applying for Special Consideration.
To pass this course student must satisfactorily complete and pass each assessment.
Marking Guide
You need to demonstrate you are competent in each element of the unit of competency you are studying.
You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you whether you are competent or not and how well you are performing. Once competent in all elements of the unit you receive a competency grading.

After achieving competency we then grade your performance in the unit; this gives you the opportunity to have the standard of your performance formally recognized against industry standards and employability skills.
