Course Description

This unit covers the design and development of advanced digital systems. It encompasses working safely, following design brief, applying knowledge of digital components/devices, interpreting device/component specifications, constructing prototype devices, applying programming techniques to programmable devices, testing developed system prototype operation, verifying compliance of the design against the final brief, and documenting design and development work.

2.1 OHS risk control work measures and procedures are
followed.
2.2 Knowledge of digital devices and systems and
compliance standards are applied to the design
2.3 Alternative arrangements for the design are
considered based on the requirements outlined in the
design brief.
2.4 Safety, functional and budget considerations are
incorporated in the design.
2.5 Prototype devices and circuits are constructed and
tested for compliance with the design brief and
regulatory requirements.
2.6 Prototype malfunctions are rectified and retested to
ensure effective operation of design.
2.7 Digital system design is documented for submission
to appropriate person(s) for approval.
2.8 Solutions to unplanned situation are provided
consistent with organisation policy.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment task 1:20% (Week 8)

This will be a practical Assignment. This practical Assignment will be available on the learning hub and student’s local drive.

Assessment task 2: 40% (Week 16)
A student project:- Students will be required to design, construct, test and debug the project hardware and software and will be required to produce a project report. The project details will be provided on the learning hub and student’s local drive.

Assessment task 3 : 40% (Week 18)
A  closed book test on All the learning aspects of these competencies. The exam will be based on what students have learned in their tutorial/practical exercises and their student project.

Assessment task1 and assessment task 2 will be available to students in week no. 1. These will be available on learning hub and student’s local drive

In this cluster minimum student directed hours are 28 in addition to 72 scheduled teaching hours.
Student directed hours involve completing activities such as reading on line resources, assignments, project work, individual student-teacher course related consultation and writing lab reports.
