Course Description

This course covers fault finding and repair of communication systems. The unit encompasses safe working practices, interpreting circuit diagrams, applying logical fault finding procedures, conducting repairs, safety and functional testing and completing the necessary service documentation.

Details of Learning Activities

• Classroom tutorial activities to consolidate the theory and application of various types of RF/micorwave amplifiers, waveguide fundamental, microwave antenna and antenna fundamentals and advanced testing and measuring devices and techniques of communication systems.
• Industrial visit to look at the actual radio and related equipments from the industry. (It will depend on the arrangement with the radio company. If it can be arranged, the teaching schedule will vary.)
• Practical activities to develop skill in construction the working model of various types of RF/microwave amplifiers. Conduct complex testing process, diagnose & rectify fault and verify the performance as specification.
Work performance simulation projects involving the commissioning of selected systems, development of testing procedure to verify the performance specification, diagnosis of faults in the systems and repair the fault. Specifications will be provided with work simulation (team or individual basis) or may be negotiated to suit a workplace based application

Overview of Assessment

This is a progressive assessment, the students are required to undertake summate assessments as follows:
• Laboratory exercises
• Written assignments
• Progressive test


Assessment Tasks

• Assignments and work performance simulations project 50% (10%+10%+30%)
  Assignment 1 (10%), Assignment 2 (10%), Project (30%)

Other Information

 This course is delivered in a cluster (Communication Engineering 1) in conjunction with EEET6754C, EEET6957C. (Find and repair faults in the microwave amplifier sections of electronic apparatus, & Find and repair faults in communication systems). All the learning and assessment activities will include the components of All competencies UEENEEH016B, UEENEEH072C.
In this cluster, minimum student directed hours are 60 in addition to 60 scheduled teaching hours.
Student directed hours involve completing activities such as reading online resources, assignments, project work, individual student-teacher course-related consultation, organized industrial visits and lab reports.

Late submission:
