Course Description

This unit covers the performance of technical aspects of engineering work in accordance with established engineering principles and practices.

Details of Learning Activities

Students will participate in a variety of teaching methods including: lectures, tutorials,practicals, class discussion, group/individual work on projects, audio-visual presentations, and interaction with individuals and groups as required.


Teaching Schedule

Please note: while your teacher will cover all the materials in the schedule, the weekly teaching and assessment order is subject to change depending on class needs and availability of resources. Students are required to self study the learning materials for the hours not scheduled in the teaching schedule. 

Session 1: Introduction and Overview of Course.

Session 2: Walk through of project process.

Sessions 3-9: Meetings with supervisor and mentoring of student(s).

Session 10: Meetings with supervisor and mentoring of student(s).  Class: Developing your CV OR Portfolio. Creating/refining your draft Project Research report.

Session 11: Identifying and evaluating your career options. Creating and refining your career development strategy. Creating/refining your draft Research report.
 

Session 12: Completing your CV/portfolio and Career strategy. Creating/refining your draft Research report. Planning your PPT presentation.
 

 Sessions 13-16: Meetings with supervisor and mentoring of student(s).
 

 Session 17: Project Report and Career Plan assignments due

Overview of Assessment

A person who demonstrates competency in this unit must be able to perform engineering activities within one or more specified engineering disciplines. Competency in this unit cannot be claimed until all prerequisites have been satisfied.


Assessment Tasks

You are required to complete the following three assessment tasks:

1. Assessment One - Session 17: AT1: Project Report - 70%
2. Assessment Two - Session 18: AT2 Project  Presentation - 20%

3. Assessment Two - Session 17: AT3 Career Plan assignment - 10%
 

All assessment tasks need to be successfully completed to demonstrate overall course competence. Only if overall course competence has been achieved will a graded assessment be issued using the codes listed below .

CC: Competent with Credit
CAG: Competency Achieved – Graded
NYC: Not Yet Competent

Late submission:

If you require an Extension of Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) for 7 calendar days or less (from the original due date) and have valid reasons, you must complete and lodge an Application for Extension of Submittable Work (7 Calendar Days or less) form and lodge it with the Senior Educator/ Program Manager. The application must be lodged no later than one working day before the official due date. You will be notified within no more than 2 working days of the date of lodgment as to whether the extension has been granted.

Submittable Work (assignments, reports or project work etc.) submitted late without an approved extension will not be accepted or marked.

Special Condideration:

If you need an Extension of Submittable Work for more than 7 calendar days (from the original due date) you must lodge an Application for Special Consideration form under the provisions of the Special Consideration Policy, preferably prior to, but no later than 2 working days after the official due date.
