Course Description

This course describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to research and explore selected sculptural materials and processes and integrate their use into creative practice.

  • Inform work through experimentation with digital imaging techniques
  • Develop and refine a conceptual vision for digital images
  • Determine and organise resource requirements for new work
  • Realise digital images.

Teaching Schedule

 

Please note that group and individual tutorials will occur throughout the semester.

Students will be consistently assisted with fabrication of works and conceptual development .Research will be highly encouraged in order to develop a sound visual personal language.Where possible demonstrations will be offered.

Ready for Action Task 1- Briefing

Concept development briefs .Students are required to expand and elaborate concept development from their Semester one dialogue.

Written dialogue minimum of 300 words clearly stating intentions for creating new work in Semester 2.Students will be encouraged to continue writing and developing their personal dialogue throughout the semester in order to create continuity and research and assist staff with an ongoing dialogue. 

Week 2- Tools/Materials/Tutorials

               Class discussion/Individual feed back session based on Concept development briefs.

               Introduction to the concept of developing an out door work. Class discussion & individual tutorials.Ongoing assistance with                        fabrication will guide the student throughout the semester.Images of other professional artist works will be shown on the smart                  board which will clearly outline fabrication and materiality in order to encourage students to develop a greater understanding of                  materiality

Week 3  Concepts briefs due for studio work and out door work.Class discussion.Feedback session.View studio set up.Conduct                             tutorials.Commence making maquette for out door work.Emphasis on studio practice and time management will be highly                         encouraged.                                  

Week 4. Class discussion.Continue out door work.Concept development.Studio practice.Group discussion.Individual assistance with                       fabrication of works. Maquettes for sculptural works to be presented.

Week 5. Outdoor work/studio work/tutorials/class discussion.Technical assistance.Research.

Week 6  Continue out door work/studio work/class discussion.Individual and group discussions

Week 7  Continue to produce sculptural works.Out door work should be near completion at this stage of the semester.Evidence of                           ongoing research. 

Week 8   Prepare folio for Tutorial week

Week 11  Studio practice/ongoing tutorials and feed back

Week 12  Mid Semester break 19th-23rd September

Assessment for this course is on going throughout the semester. Your knowledge and understanding of course content is assessed through completion of a body of work that demonstrates concept development, understanding of materials and adhering to the guidelines of working in a studio.

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following pieces o assessment to a satisfactory standard.You will receive feedback on all assessment.

Assessment Tasks 

Semester 2 Weeks 1-16

Assessment title:

1.Concept development/Self initiated studio work. Concept presentation

 Minimum of one three completed sculptural works and one major out door work

 Visual Diary.Your visual diary should  show evidence of thorough research, influences.A clear understanding of fabrication

 and conceptual development.
