Course Description

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to use a range of digital applications in architectural workflows. It includes the ability to determine the appropriate digital applications required for specific project outputs and the application of architectural standards and conventions to
produce and manage the project. Work is likely to be undertaken with limited supervision and in consultation with team members and external consultants.

5.1 Digital and physical output methods are selected to ensure compliance with industry standard delivery methods and client requirements.

5.2 Conventions and standards related to layout and print sizing, for both physical and digital outputs, are identified and implemented.

5.3 Digital and physical communication conventions are examined and selected according to their cost effectiveness and sustainability.

5.4 Interim check plots are produced to confirm that outputs meet project requirements and modifications are made as necessary.

5.5 Final hard copies of project documentation are produced for submission to relevant stakeholders, in compliance with regulatory requirements.

5.6 Outputs are evaluated to ensure compliance with planned project outcomes.


Learning Outcomes


This unit of competency supports the attainment of the skills and knowledge required for building designers to produce outputs for architectural projects using a variety of digital applications.


Details of Learning Activities

Learning activities will take place in a studio, workshop or classroom using industry standard tools and resources. You will complete assessments and industry style projects. You will also be required to undertake independent study.

Overview of Assessment

This unit of competency could be assessed in the workplace or a close simulation of the workplace environment, provided that simulated or project-based assessment techniques fully replicate building design workplace conditions, materials, activities, responsibilities and procedures. Holistic or project-based assessment with other related units is recommended.

A person who demonstrates competency in this unit must be able to provide evidence of the ability to:
• apply organisational policies and procedures, including occupational health and safety and quality assurance requirements, where applicable
• comply with copyright and trade practices legislation and organisational privacy and security policies and procedures
• produce digitally generated information for an architectural project
• collaborate and consult with team members and outside agencies
• meet the criteria of the project brief to the required standard and within allocated timelines.
 


Assessment Tasks

Students who do not acheive a pass of 50% in Year 1 will receive a ’DNS’ and will not proceed to Year 2.   Students must pass assessments in multiple contexts as provided by the assessment tasks. 

Year 1

Assessment will consist of a series of classroom assessments, a Learning Resource Folio and two major projects that consolidate the development of digital workflow principles and practice. Two topical tests will also be used at the conclusion of theory topics (2 through out the year).

Assessment will consist of a series of short assessments and four major projects that consolidate the development of digital workflow principles and practice.

Students on-going work must be submitted at the end of each session in digital format to demonstrate class participation.
