Course Description

In this course you will gain skills and knowledge required to select finished creative work for storage, to assess storage needs, and to protect and maintain work in storage.
People working in all areas of arts practice apply the skills and knowledge described in this unit. They could be responsible for selecting and organising the storage of finished works in their own practice, at an artist-run studio, or in a gallery, exhibition space or educational institution.

Assessment tasks in this course include: an oral test and an essay on an area of archival photographic processes


Assessment Tasks

Assessment tasks in this course are either formative or summative. Formative tasks provide the basis for ongoing feedback and can be considered as essential building blocks for the more substantial summative assessment tasks. To demonstrate competency in this course, you will need to complete each one of the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback on all assessments and a grade for the summative assessments.

Formative 01
Summative 01 topic selection and group task breakdown. To be presented in class

Summative 01
In groups of 4 choose an archival topic to research. Develop a presentation (PowerPoint + digital handout) to present to the class

Example Topics:
 

Folio types/makers
Research different types of folios, costs & availability.
Include layout design, presentation (finished art skills) order and anything else that goes into making a great impact and a memorable folio. Compile your findings into one resource (handout) and present to the class (PowerPoint).
 

Online storage (cloud)
Research different types of online storage/archiving, costs & availability.
Include pros/cons and any special requirements (security issues etc.) Compile your findings into one resource (handout) and present to the class (PowerPoint).
 

Framing
Research different Melbourne based framers, costs & archival requirements. Compile your findings into one resource (handout) and present to the class (PowerPoint)
 

Archival Materials
Research different materials suitable for protecting and storing photographic work. Compile your findings into one resource (handout) and present to the class (PowerPoint)
