Course Description
This course describes the skills and knowledge required to work with clients, their carers and other members of a multi-disciplinary team, where appropriate, to provide and fit assistive devices to meet individual client needs
This will include confirmation of the suitability of the prescription, suitability of fit and operation and the capacity or social interaction of the client which may include use of the assistive devices

1.1 Confirm assistive device details and fitting requirements against the prescribed information provided by the health professional 1.2 Confirm with allied health professional specific client needs and abilities 1.3 Confer with allied health professional if fitting requirements are outside scope of role and responsibilities as defined by the organisation 1.4 Determine the clients' availability, according to the organisation's protocols 1.5 Gather assistive device and any equipment required for fitting 1.6 Prepare the setting for the fitting and instruction for use 1.7 Obtain informed consent from the clients before commencing the fitting |

Overview of Assessment
The assessment will involve written and practical assessment in simulated environment. On gaining competency in these assessments, students will undertake clinical placement for this competency
Assessment Tasks
You are required to achieve competency in all of the assessment tasks in order to pass the Occupational Therapy component of the Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance.
Assessment Tasks in class room environment
Units:
- HLTAH407C Assist with the rehabilitation of clients
- HLTAH408C Assist with the development and maintenance of client functional status
- HLTAH414C Support the fitting of assistive devices
The above units are assessed as a cluster. You must achieve competency in all five (5) assessment tasks in order to pass the related cluster units.
Assessment Task Date of Assessment
AT1: Activity Analysis
- Analyse an ADL activity of your choose and complete a report based on relevant ‘Activity Analysis’ components.
- Presentation of assignment to the class.
- Details of the assessment will be provided in class
AT2: Equipment Project
- You will be allocated an equipment topic to research and present to class. Details of the assessment will be provided in class
AT3: Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation Assignment
- Complete an assignment workbook that combines questions across each unit of study covered in the cluster.
AT4: Practical exam – Teach an ADL functional skill
- You will be provided with a case scenario identifying a skill that you are required to teach.
- Safely and independently teach the skill to a patient.
AT5: Written exam - Involves two components:
1. Short Answer questions
2. Case Study
After successful completion of these assessments, you will be allocated clinical placement for one week. You need to be deemed competent in clinical placement to pass this course.
NOTE- The student needs to be deemed competent in all assessments to pass the course. The students will be allocated to attend placements on successful completion of their classroom assessments. The students need to pass both classroom based assessments and clinical assessments to be deemed competent for the course.
