Course Description

This course describes the knowledge and skills required to liaise and facilitate linkages between community services including specialist and generalist services in the community to ensure support of people in need. The skills described in this course may be applied across a range of workplace contexts, especially involving related service delivery, sharing of information and client referral.

Details of Learning Activities

In this course you will learn about the importance of facilitating links between services, how to gather and store the information you receive from services and communicate this across you’re the organisation that you work for and across the sector. You will learn how to support other organisations to enhance service delivery and ensure you continue to provide support to people referred. Classroom sessions will include research activities, case studies, guest speakers and role-plays. These activities will assist the student towards achieving competency for this unit. The Certificate IV in Disability includes a field placement in a community service organisation of 200 hours across the whole program and the knowledge and skills you acquire in this course will be developed further through the placement.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment may include observations, questioning and evidence gathered from the workplace. In cases where the learner does not have the opportunity to cover all relevant aspects in the work environment, the remainder should be assessed through realistic simulations, projects, previous relevant experience or oral questioning on ’What if?’ scenarios.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment is ongoing throughout the course. Assessment will incorporate a range of methods to assess performance and the application of knowledge and skills and will include a number of assessment tasks.

There are three assessment tasks for this course.

  1. Project: Research and design activity for promotional material
  2. Observation: Students will create all written materials for a meeting and run the meeting
  3. Case Study: A case study scenario will be given with a set of short answer questions
