Course Description

In this course you will select and apply lighting to a range of subjects in different work spaces.

This course covers the planning, organization, set up, lighting and shooting of studio photography. You will gain the technical skills for operating the 5x4 camera & E6 film, medium format 6x7 camera & E6 film and DSLR. You will gain skills and techniques required for being a professional assistant.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment tasks include:
Shooting assignments to a brief in the studio with time for re shoots. Planning mock ups and dialogue with the teacher are part of the process. Students will also be required to assess their assistants.


Assessment Tasks

This course is co-delivered with BSBOHS201A Participate in OHS processes.

To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following assessment to a satisfactory standard.
You will receive feedback on all assessment and where indicated, you will receive a grade. Graded assessment tasks are equally weighted and will determine your final result for this course.

Assessment tasks in this course include:

Non Graded Assessment
You will complete two non graded assessments,

- Lighting Assessment Task 1 (Food) due Week 12.
- Lighting Assessment Task 2 (Rembrandt): due Week 12.

For each shoot you will follow the same process:

Before you shoot :
Sketch or mock up of your idea signed off by teacher.
Discussion with the teacher on your idea.
The teacher will allocate you an assistant who you will assess as they follow your direction.

After the shoot you will submit the following:

Assessment of your assistant on the day of the shoot (checklist)
The transparency
Hi res of your final image
Low res of your final image

Graded Assessment
- Lighting Graded Assignment (Portrait) Due Week 15

You will complete a portrait shoot following the same process as you followed in the two formative assessments, due week 15.

Grades used for this assessment  are as follows:
