Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to assemble and sew complex whole garments from written specifications and/or patterns.

2. Observation tasks during which learners observe garment assembly processes.
3. Safety procedures and practices: demonstrations and practice in making safe use of materials and equipment.
4. Examination of specification formats and practice in developing assembly plans
5. Machine set-ups including doing adjustments to settings; needle and thread type selection by comparing the characteristic of different fabrics
6. Receiving work-pieces; practice in handling work correctly including participation in a production run such as a Just in Time activity.
7. Doing quality checks: activities in identification of faults by reference to specifications and procedures for correcting faults
8. Giving and receiving relevant information; activities related to record keeping procedures
Garment construction practice relating to sewing operations and techniques for preparing and assembling whole garments according to specifications and timelines.

Overview of Assessment
Tasks that have not been authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary to demonstrate that you can:
1. Set-up and carry out work according to safety standards
2. Develop and carry out assembly plans for garments to show an understanding of the stages involved in whole garments assembly
3. Plan, set-up and carry out own work according to given specifications and time-lines
4. Carry out correct garment assembly operations and techniques by constructing a small range of garments, using given materials (including interlinings and fastenings), equipment and different machine types
5. Efficiently produce complex whole garments according to make and quality specifications.
Assessment time-line: Progressive assessments, unit tests, and assessment of completed garments.
