Course Description

This unit defines the competency required to analyse the impact of the system on the organisation and carry out risk analysis, disaster recovery and contingency planning for the project.

Performance Criteria:

1. Identify business-critical functions and the security environment from documentation and from discussion with business area and project team
2. Identify critical data and software from documentation
3. Assess potential impact of business risk and threats on IT Systems
4. Identify and evaluate statutory requirements,commercial requirements and contingency possibilities according to specifications and cost constraints
1. Identify threats to the system , with consideration of security analysis and internal and external business environment
2. Evaluate risk minimisation alternatives against specifications and cost constraints
1. Evaluate prevention and recovery options to support critical business functions against business specifications and cost constraints
2. Review current operational procedures to ensure adequate risk safeguards and contingency plans are in place
3. Submit disaster recovery and prevention strategy to appropriate person for approval
1. Identify and document resources required for disaster recovery according to specifications and cost constraints
2. Identify and document processes required for disaster strategy according to project standards
3. Identify cut-over criteria before initiating disaster plan
4. Document disaster recovery plan and submit to appropriate person for review and sign-off

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will include a project portfolio, class exercises and an in-class supervised assessment.
You are advised that  you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. You will be provided with feedback throughout the course to check  your progress.


Assessment Tasks

1. Project 1 This assessment requires learners to submit an analysis of a case study where a disaster occurred

2. Project 2 This assessment requires learners to prepare a disaster recovery plan that incorporates quality aspects for a selected case study

3. Project Management Plan Learners select and complete number of templates that will assist them to manage their projects

4. Weekly Status Presentations Learners present progress on their project on a weekly basis

5. Project Final Report This assessment focuses on preparing a professional final project report

6. Exam This assessment enables learners to relate their experience to the theoretical concepts.

Competency Requirements:

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over multiple tasks.

To be deemed competent students must demonstrate an understanding of all elements of a competency including employability skills.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Students must achieve competency (CA) in each competency based assessment task.

Each assessment task will also carry a numerical weighting to be used for grading purposes to reflect participation, quality and professionalism.

Grading:

A student’s final grade will be the total of their accumulated marks across all assessment tasks.
