Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required of complementary and alternative health care practitioners who provide services to people with an chronic health problem that support their health needs.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment for this course forms part of the Diploma of Remedial Massage.
Assessment is typically based around written and/or online tests, assignments, reflective journals, evidence portfolio’s, logbooks and/or practical demonstrations.
Assessment may also take place in a simulated work situation such as a supervised student clinic.
Competency based training requires the student to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.
Assessment is undertaken through successful completion of all assessment activities and classroom, project & industry participation.
Assessments are spaced across the duration of the course, in order for your teacher to provide you with progressive feedback.
Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions, through individual and group feedback on practical exercises and by individual consultation.

D15J Systemic Pathology 2015

Submission of Systemic Pathologies Weeks 38-46:

Assessment 1 - During weeks 38-46 you will be required to fill in the template provided for the systemic pathologies, and submit your work to TURNITIN (under Assessments in RMIT Blackboard). Each week will have its own section.

You must submit the required material for that week prior to 5pm on the following Tuesday (after this time you will be unable to submit any work).

Please be aware that TURNITIN is able to detect copyright infringements and the duplication of information. Please ensure that all work submitted is in accordance with the Harvard style of referencing. Use the prescribed text or another pre-approved text. Internet sources will not be accepted.

Assessment 2 - Practical Assessment (Simulated Clinic Session): During this practically based scenario assessment, students will be required to carry out a remedial massage health assessment and treatment in a simulated clinic setting. Students will need to demonstrate a variety of essential knowledge and skills such as basic interpersonal communication skills, preparing treatment plans, providing treatment/care to clients and the correct application of appropriate massage assessment and treatment techniques.

Log book


Log book: A log book submission of 2 different chronic cases over 2 treatments (not necessarily weekly). Students will need to assess, treat and take record of 2 treatments on 2 chronic conditions. A log book template is available in the Systemic Pathology & Chronic Conditions subject folder in blackboard which will need to be submitted via TURNITIN (under Assessments in RMIT Blackboard) along with an Initial case history form and a return consult form by 5pm on the 10th November 2015.
