Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to develop cost estimates for sample production of products within the fashion industry.

2.4 Differences in costs for sample and bulk production
garments are explained.

Learning Outcomes


In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required in cost estimating for a range of garments and products developed for the fashion industry, including sample production.


Details of Learning Activities

Learning Activities The course is integrated with LMTFD5019B Analyse individual fit and make pattern alterations.
LMTFD5010B Develop and present Design concepts within specific guidelines
to form a cluster or learning program called Design Studio 2
In this course you will be involved in blended learning activities involving both theoretical and practical tasks.
• You will be required to undertake research outside of regular class times.
• You will integrate skills across the design process and focus on the use and experimentation of design studio processes which will result in the production of a fashion design product which meets a specified brief
Develop and produce costing specifications for Assessment task 1& 2

INTRODUCTION:
Assessment expectations; attendance.

INDUSTRY PARTNER - PROJECT 1

With COTTON ON, SUSSAN, CHEE and THE ARK

Finalise your design and research, your concept and your 200 word synopsis.

Discuss suitability of selected/proposed fabrics and trims with your teacher.

Week 2
Industry Partner Interviews/ feedback:

COMPULSORY ATTENDANCE
Review of designs and selection of final styles to be made.

Week 3-4
Pattern and Toile Development

Consider suitability/Fit of blocks.

Assess toiles for patternmaking outcomes

Begin to develop Detailed costing for produced garments

Finalise toiles and patterns.

Week 5
Continue with all aspects of the project 1
Prepare and cut fabric

Commence final construction

Week 6
Continue with all aspects of the project 1
Information delivered re Project 2-“Future Project”

Overview of Assessment

Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.

As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.

PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.


Assessment Tasks

As part of the Blended learning activity Students are to identify all elements of their designs that will need to be considered to create costing sheets for all garments made for Project 1 (Industry Partner project) and  Project 2 (Future project)

 

Costing sheets for Project 1 (Industrry project) are due at the end of the project in Week 8

 

Costing Sheets for Project 2 (Future project) are due at the end of the project in Week 16
