Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge to draw and interpret a two-dimensional sketch of a garment, to identify construction features.

Learning Outcomes
In this unit you will required to develop the skills and knowledge for interpreting and drawing basic trade sketches. Basic sketches or working drawings are two-dimensional, accurate drawings that show accurate details of pattern pieces and garment construction, and may be drawn freehand or with the use of measuring devices and templates.
Details of Learning Activities
• This is a manual drawing class using primarily, pencil and fine line pen.
• In this course you will be involved in theoretical and practical fashion drawing tasks.
• You will be drawing garments and garment components, from a variety of sources such as magazines and samples, to fashion industry standards.
Teaching Schedule

Week 1
Introduction to course and equipment required. Drawing techniques: using the layout paper, tracing, copying, using the light box, pencil, using the fine liner. Develop garment templates for trade sketching. Draw skirt and top. 1 hour Finish skirt and knit top drawings
Week 2
Draw gathers, shirring and pintucks. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 3
Draw yarn knit. Drawing techniques: using the layout paper, tracing, copying, using the light box, pencil, using the fine liner. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 4
Draw Skirt openings, waistband and basque. Draw pleats. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 5
Draw Pants. Draw pockets. 2 hour Finish drawings
Week 6
Individual feedback to students.
Week 7
Collar variations and construction. Draw sleeve types and plackets. The use of “blow-ups”, highlighting details. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 8
Wrap, convertible collar. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 9
Draw jacket with shawl collar. Draw sleeve types. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 10
Individual feedback to students.
Week 11
Draw tailored jacket: collar and revere. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 12
Continue drawing tailored jacket, single and double breasted, front and back view. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 13
Draw dresses, gathers and ruching. 1 hour Finish drawings
Week 14
Drawing lingerie and swimwear. 2 hour Finish drawings
Week 15
Garment Details Assignment – Due at beginning of class.
Workplace fashion drawing task - Due at end of class.

Overview of Assessment
Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.
This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.
As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.
