Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to work with international textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) supply chains.

1. Identify participants and features of international supply chain

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Members in the supply chain for products or services within area of
responsibility are identified

1.4 Characteristics and practices of supplier are identified.
1.5 Import and export regulations and practices of relevant country are

5.1 International production and supply documentation and monitoring

reports prepared, where necessary.

Learning Outcomes

On sucessful completion of this course the learner develops the skills & knowledge required to be able to workwith international suppliers and customers of goods and services, according to established contractual agreements.
Working with international suppliers and customers includes implementing import and export practices, building commercial relationships, and working effectively with local customs, communications and industry work practices.
Learners are also required to develop  the skills associated with communication to establish relationships with domestic and international suppliers and customers, resolve supply chain issues, and report and document information relating to supply. Planning and organising, initiative and enterprise and problem solving are required to determine requirements for implementing and maintaining effective supply chain relationships and processes. Learning is applied to maintain currency of knowledge with regards to supply chain contacts and processes.

Details of Learning Activities

The Learning and Teaching activities involve the application of theoretical knowledge gained to the practical exercises undertaken. It would better help to understand the complex structure of TCF Supply chain step by step.
The activities are a mix of lecture, tutorial, workshop, in-class practical, workbooks, research tasks, guest-speakers, industry visits for students, online support and folio presentation and assessment.

Teaching Schedule

Teaching time equates to 48 hours in class time, plus Students are expected to devote an extra 12 hours of out of class time.

Weeks and Topic
Week 1.                          Course Overview, followed by developing an understanding of operating within international environment.
Effective Communication &Planning in particular to dealing with people overseas and cultures.

Weeks 2 & 3.                Develop a need for accurate and up-to-date research and the available tools.
Participate in Workshop with an Invited guest and web-based exercise.

Weeks 4, 5, 6 & 7.       Identify and elaborate on current and past issues of Globalisation affecting the supply chain of TCF industries.
• Research import & export regulations.
• Visit Fashion Business/Industry activities
• Interview Guest representatives TCF industry representatives to find various Logistical activities and advantages

       Assessment Task: 1 (Introduced in Week 4, Due Week 6 and Presentation Week 7)
       • Part A: Research Report
       • Part B: PPT Presentation: 3 minute summary to ones’ peers

Method Learning and Teaching will involve Lectures; Guest Speakers; and Videos followed by a Discussion on the effect of decision making and communication on the TCF supply chain.
(1hour out of class work required)

Weeks 8; 9 and 10.    Logistical requirements for effective International TCF Supply chain.
Comparisons of Costs and Bill of Material (BOM) and other considerations

       Assessment Task: Part 2A (Costing Pack )
       • Develop a flowchart for the Supply / Value Chain (including supplier details) process for the above product of your own choice.
       • Produce an accurate and relevant specifications, supplier options and time schedules. Produce a "Costing Pack made up of a three stage Specification template and Costing Sheet.

During Fashion Week activities research the importance of Cross Cultural Communication including local customs, workplace practices and the local industry market of different countries.
(4 hours out of class work required) 

     Weeks 11; 12; 13 14 & 15. Using a Major team project (WIL) will provide an actual and practical “hands on learning” experience. It is recommended that students interview Industry to develop a deeper understanding.
Panel Discussion on the need for relevant audit trail and provide samples of TCF Documentation. Use data and support facilities of AusTrade. (3 hours out of class work required)

       Assessment Task –  2 Part B; and Part C (3 hours out of class work required)

Week 16.                     Produce a Folio of Evidence monitoring Performance etc. reflecting on the learning activities and assessments, also provide paper trail used in the typical TCF industry.

Overview of Assessment

Detailed course and assessment requirements and information will be made available to you first week of class. Specific details will be explained to you during scheduled classes.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.

As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.

PLEASE NOTE: work that has not been authenticated during class as your own work will not be considered for assessment.

2. Assessment – 2 Total           = 60%       Participate in Major Supply Chain Project
             Task: 2 Part “A” = 10% _ Research and Report
             Task: 2 Part “B” = 10% _ In collaboration with ALL class members: Produce an accurate and
                                                          relevant specifications, supplier options and time schedules.
                                                          Develop strategies for the Supply/Value-Chain (including proposed
                                                          supplier details) process for a product of your own choice.
              Task: 2 Part “C” = 40% _ By the use of Panel/Collaboration Discussion forum, supported by a Static display,
                                                           Students will share the need for relevant audit trail and provided samples
                                                           of TCF Documentation for products made and sold overseas
3. Assessment Task - 3             = 10%       Folio of Student’s work and their reflections 
                                                           Reflect on your Learning (Folio evidence monitoring performance, etc.) also provide samples of the paper-trail used in a typical TCF industry business
