Course Description
This competency unit describes the skills and knowledge required for the Enrolled/Division 2 Nurse to perform nursing interventions to support the health care needs of the older person in both acute care settings and residential aged care environments.

Assessment Tasks
Assessment 1 Interview
Part A: Develop a tool for interview during class time
Part B: Interview a client during Clinical Placement
Part C: Undertake a peer evaluation via Turnitin following the marking guide provided
Assessment 2 Development of Care Plan
In groups of 3-4 as allocated by teacher, develop a care plan related to a scenario provided
Submit the completed care plan via Turnitin (Blackboard)
Assessment 3 Develop a Group DVD
In groups of 2-3 as allocated by teacher, you will be provided with a topic to discuss
The group topic discussion is to focus on ‘cultural, religious and spiritual beliefs of the dying and death process’.
The discussion is to be video recorded as a MP4 file and submitted via Turnitin (Blackboard).
Submission of references is to be included in the Turnitin submission.
Assessment 4 Computer Skills Lab
Students are to undertake 2 tasks to demonstrate how technology is used to enhance nursing communication. This task will be undertaken in class (Computer Lab/Library) or off campus.
Assessment 5 Clinical Placement
Attendance of Clinical LABS & WARD DAYS for skills practice and/or assessment
Satisfactory completion of Clinical Placement as determined by the Clinical Coordinator
Assessments undertaken with HLTEN502B & HLTEN511B
ALL ASSESSMENTS MUST GAIN A ’SATISFACTORY’ IN ORDER TO GAIN OVERALL ’COMPETENT’ GRADE
