Course Description

This unit involves the skills and knowledge required to analyse and apply knowledge of logistics.

The application of this knowledge is required by people who are not currently specialists in the field but need the knowledge to inform their decision making.

The application of logistics knowledge is specific to a variety of component processes in logistical activities including the logistics support to operations, logistics support to capability and the application of logistics systems.

Learning Outcomes


This course is structured to provide students with the optimum learning experience in order to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to analyse and apply knowledge of logistics.


Details of Learning Activities

A range of learning activities are planned for this course including self-paced and collaborative classroom based activities.

The collaborative classroom based activities will include group discussion, group problem solving activities and opportunities to practice your skills in a simulated/real workplace environment.

We expect you to participate and contribute in all scheduled learning activities.

3 22 Feb 2021 Legislation & regulations in the logistics industry 

This week we will discuss legislations that apply to logistics, implementation & management of logistics, logistics industry authorities & regulators and  application of international standards.

4 1 March 2021 Policies & procedures, monitoring & reporting in the logistics industry 

This week we will overview; Systems applied to the logistics industry, system capabilities & differences, planning, monitoring & evaluating systems available and continuous improvement application with policies, procedures & systems.

5 8 March 2021  Managing Customer Service

This week we explore the topic of customer service. We distinguish the difference between internal and external customers/stakeholders, quality chains, the relationship between customer needs, preferences and satisfaction.
We also apply the table of customer expectations to assess and decide on product feasibility.

9 12 April 2021 Managing Suppliers

This week we will be discussing the processes involved in managing suppliers and the impact that suppliers and supplier relationships have on our businesses and our capability to service the requirements of our customers. We explore how to select appropriate suppliers and preparing prospective supplier lists. 

ACTIVITY – Week 9
Group Activity: In groups of four research and recommend to the class at least 3 suppliers for coffee, sugar and milk in Australia.

 
10 19 April 2021 Organisational Policies and Strategies for managing suppliers
This week we investigate organisational policies and procedures and benefits of having workplace policies and key legislation.
We continue to discuss managing suppliers and strategies.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment Methods

Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of the requirements in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks, for example:

  • direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
  • review of final printed documents
  • demonstration of techniques
  • observation of presentations
  • oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of software applications

You are advised that you are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate your assessment work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.

Performanc Evidence

 

You must provide evidence of the ability to:

  • adhere to relevant logistics requirements
  • apply knowledge of logistics to assist in work and to guide problem solving
  • demonstrate understanding of personal role in relation to wider organisational or project context

This evidence must be demonstrated over time and should be observed in a range of actual or simulated work contexts.

Knowledge Evidence

You must demonstrate evidence of the following required knowledge:

  • Logistics information or information systems
  • Logistics knowledge relevant to the work performed
  • Logistics relevant to logistics support to capability and logistics support to operations
  • Safety, legislative and statutory requirements, including environmental, sustainability issues relevant to logistics

Assessment Task 2 –  Customer Service Management Planning

Group or Individual: This assignment is to be completed individually                         

Purpose:

This assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to manage customer service as part of work undertaken in various contexts within the transport and logistics industry.

 

Assessment Task 3 –  Supply Management

Date and time due: Week 15
Group or Individual: This assignment is to be completed individually                         

Purpose:

This assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to manage suppliers in various contexts within the transport and logistics industry.

Submission Requirements

 

You should:

 

Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date.

Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)

When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use the Assessment task document that includes a

    declaration and statement of authorship.

Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.

Late Submission Procedures

 

You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.

 

If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions (VE Programs):

 

If you are found to be unsuccessful in a particular Course Assessment Task (or you do not submit/attend) you will be allowed one resubmission.  Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission.

 

If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.

 

Grading & re-submissions

 

Successful re-submissions will contribute a CAG only (Competency Achieved Grading) result to your overall grade for the course
