Course Description

The purpose of this course is to develop the participant’s knowledge and skills to participate in individual and team-based quality improvement activities in the workplace.
This course equips the student with the skills to implement and monitor continuous improvement of systems and processes.

Teaching Schedule

Week one Definitions of quality., including non-conformances, errors, near-misses. Theorists of evolution of quality, including Juran, Ishikawa, and Deming.  
Week two Quantitative process control, including six sigma  
Week three Qualitative measuring of quality.  
Week four Quantitative tools, including control chart, trend analysis, run charts, scatter diagrams, histograms,  and pareto chart.  
 Week five  Qualitative tools, including market research, staff/supplier feedback, ishikawa diagram.  
 Week six  Documentation in quality management, including incident reports,  Assessment one due: report on case study of quality in an organisation.
 Week seven  Team based organisation  
 Week eight  Legal framework of quality, including Privacy Act, and Trade Practices Act  
 Week nine  Revision

Overview of Assessment

 To successfully to complete this course the student is required to pass written assessment tasks and demonstrate skills and ability by completing practical tasks.


Assessment Tasks

Assessmernt one = Two-page paper report, due week six. Report of quality management systems implemented by that organisation. Worth 30%

Assessment two = Exam.(text/written)  Worth 70%
