Course Description

This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to design a sewerage reticulation system to local Municipal standards and proportion the elements of a small sewage treatment plant, as well as to understand the principles of sewage treatment.

3. Design the horizontal alignment of a sewer.

  3.1 The sewer is located either along the streets or at the rear of

4. Design the vertical alignment of a sewer.

Performance Criteria:

4.1 The allotment category is determined.
4.2 The lot and fixture controls are determined.
4.3 The minimum depths of property drains and end fittings are
4.4 The vertical alignment of a sewer is fixed using appropriate
grades and depths.
4.5 Manholes, inspection shafts and pipeline ends are located.
4.6 Final invert levels and chainages are determined.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment are conducted in both theoretical and practical aspects of the course according to the performance criteria set out in the National Training Package. Students are required to undertake summative assessments that bring together knowledge and skills. To successfully complete this course you will be required to demonstrate competency in each assessment tasks detailed under the Assessment Task Section.

• Student directed hours involve completing activities such as reading online resources, project work, individual student-teacher course-related consultation. Students are required to self-study the learning materials and complete the assigned out of class activities for the scheduled non-teaching hours. The estimated time is 20 hours outside the class time.

Late submission:
