Course Description

This unit describes the skills required to apply current and relevant standards of professional and ethical behaviour by translators and interpreters in complex settings and interactions. The unit requires knowledge of professional codes of ethics and the development and maintenance of professional judgement. It requires the ability to consider a wide range of professional issues and to reflect on and continuously develop a highly informed approach to practice.

This unit will be delivered in a cluster as follows:

Overview of Assessment

Assessment will be ongoing during the semester, and you will receive feedback on your progress. You will undertake a variety of assessment tasks and activities to assess your level of competence against key elements and performance criteria.

The assessment tasks/activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Role plays
- Observation checklists
- Teacher directed group activities
- Individual/group research activities within the T&I industry and/or relevant domains to the professional practice such as courts, hospitals, trade expos etc.
evidence demostrating application of codes and standards
- Practical demonstration of understanding and application of codes and standards in selected scenarios and simulated activities
