Top of pagePurpose of the Program
Pharmacy is a profession playing an important role in the Australian health care system. The RMIT University Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) degree prepares you for a career in both community and hospital pharmacies, for the pharmaceutical industry, or in health policy and administration roles. As a graduate of the program, you will have the requisite knowledge, skills and attributes to enter into an approved intern training program leading to registration as a pharmacist upon successful completion. You will expand your knowledge of the underpinning sciences and apply your knowledge and understanding to pharmaceutics, pharmacy practice, therapeutics and research; developing a foundation for the practice of pharmacy in hospital, community and industrial settings.
The final year of the program prepares you for employment with capstone courses PHAR1010 Integrated Therapeutics and Pharmacy Practice 1, PHAR1011 Integrated Therapeutics and Pharmacy Practice 2 and ONPS2490 Research Methods for Pharmacy Students by integrating therapeutics and pharmacy practice with research methodology. As an addition to these capstone courses, you will also demonstrate cumulative knowledge and skills from the program in a research project - either ONPS2491 Pharmacy Research Project or PHAR1043 Professional Pharmacy Project. The focus of these courses is the application of the knowledge, skills and attributes that you have learned throughout the program, communicating effectively and working both independently and as a member of a team. The Honours level of the final year also means that you can progress directly to more advanced research studies.
While most courses in the program are delivered on the Bundoora campus, some courses require attendance on the City Campus. Most course are delivered in a face-to-face mode, others via a combination of predominantly online activities supported by some campus-based activities.
