Purpose of the Program

The successful completion of Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) program will provide you with a broad and coherent body of knowledge and theory related to global aviation industry. The knowledge obtained will enable you to critically review and analyse aspects of the aviation industry, such as:

  • airline operations planning and management
  • airline maintenance management and supervision
  • airport landside operations
  • airport airside operations
  • airport planning and management
  • aviation safety management
  • airline strategies, finance, and traffic data
  • human factors concepts and applications

as well as technical and contemporary issues in the aviation industry, such as systems, sustainability and the environment.        

Two capstone courses "AERO2554 Aviation Industry Project" and "AERO2553 Aviation Project Management" are included in the program. These capstone courses provide you with an opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that you have gained throughout your studies in the program. Graduates of the program are well suited to enter junior management and supervisory positions with air services providers, airlines and airport organisations located throughout the world. Graduates are also well positioned to undertake further post-graduate aviation studies in Aviation.

This program is primarily delivered in face-to-face mode. While most courses in the program are delivered on campus, others use a blended mode combining face-to-face and online delivery.

    Entrance requirements

    Academic Entry Criteria 

    Applicants who have successfully completed one of the following Higher Diploma (HD) qualifications awarded by Vocational Training Council (VTC) in Hong Kong.

    • HD in Aviation
    • HD in Customer Services for Aviation and Passenger Transport
    • HD in Aviation Management and Global Logistics
      - previously “HD in Airfreight Management and Global Logistics”
    • HD in Airport Operations Management
    • HD in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering

    Applicants with other qualifications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    English Language Entry Criteria

    You should also satisfy one of the following:

    • IELTS 6.5 with no band lower than 6.0; or
    • TOEFL (Internet Based Test - IBT): minimum overall score of 79 (with minimum of 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing); or
    • HKDSE score of 4 or more in English Language; or
    • Successful completion of at least the equivalent of a two year tertiary program of at least AQF Level 5 within the past five years, where English is the language of instruction and assessment. AQF Level 5 is at minimum a Diploma qualification with a duration of 1.5 to 2 years.  All Higher Diploma holders of 5 years or less standing would qualify; or
    • Other equivalent qualifications as listed on the English equivalents web page.

    External accreditation and industry links

    The Bachelor of Applied Science (Aviation) is not accredited by any external professional bodies.

    The School has expanding Australian and international links with the Aviation industry. These have grown out of relationships originally built around the School’s postgraduate programs in Aviation Management.

    The School of Engineering has an Industry Advisory Committee for the Aviation programs, which is an important link to industry. The committee includes senior members from a number of major national companies and from government and non-government organisations. The Committee provides comments and advice on the contents of these programs.  The School has expanding Australian and international links with the Aviation industry. These have grown out of relationships originally built around the School’s graduate programs in Aerospace and Aviation.

    Key stakeholders in the aviation industry have participated in the original development of this program, and industry is playing a continuing role in ensuring that it remains relevant and graduates have strong career paths.

    Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

    Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
