Objectives of the program

Upon graduation with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from RMIT University in the School of Media and Communication you will be ready to embark on an academic career or further develop your professional career in Media and/or Communication.

Entrance requirements

This program is no longer taking new students.

As an applicant for the Doctor of Philosophy you must have:
a. A degree of Masters by Research of RMIT, or
b. A degree of Masters by Coursework of RMIT which includes a research program
with a duration of at least one semester full-time (or part-time equivalent). If you have
qualified for a Masters by Coursework without having undertaken a research program
of at least one semester’s duration, the College/School may consider you for direct
entry provided you can demonstrate other areas of research experience relevant
to the discipline in the form of publications and conference presentations, or
c. A degree of Bachelor of RMIT with first class honours, or upper second
class honours, or
d. Another award deemed to be equivalent in character and standard to the
above degrees, or
e. Such other qualifications or experience as the College/School considers appropriate.
International onshore applicants will also be required to meet the following English
Language Requirements:
- IELTS - 7:00 average across all four bands; no less than 6:5 in any one.
These entrance requirements are the minimum academic standard you must meet
in order to be eligible to apply for the program. Some research programs at RMIT
also have extra requirements that may be requested from you as part of the selection
process such as:
- an interview
- a test
- and/or folio.
